Yep, sure looks like we're possibly going to be in for a very hard winter this year. Got your netmail (g). Thanks, Meg .... I haven't ridden her since we brought her home -- I figured I'd give her time to acquaint herself with the place, other horses and with me. We've already started bonding .... she "looks" for me to come out to the barn -- and I get such a welcome ..... not the nickering kind that X gives me ....... not "that look" that Shammie gives me ..... it's a genuine "I'm glad to see you" type look (yes, "Baby" used to do that too -- there are so many things that this horse does that "Baby" used to do ........ no, I'm NOT liking her just because of that either .... it's just there - something special ..... I just cannot believe I could find that type of thing TWO times in my lifetime!! I am truely blessed for sure!!!) Her personality is a lot like "Baby"s ..... she's the "Dowager Queen" type -- Aristocratic ...... and she's so well trained I just cannot believe my luck that I got her!!! This horse has lived in luxery for a long time (true show horse). Hey, I keep my horses well, but SEDONA had GROOMS to take care of her every need ). Here's why I was able to get her ..... I knew SEDONA was for sale back in May ...... our vet told me about her - that she was a really good "carriage horse". This was back when X was sick. I really wasn't ready for another horse yet ...... but I did call her owner and "talk". The price that lady was asking was WAY out of my league ...... so I forgot about it. I looked at several other horses but nothing "clicked" .... they were all nice horses but nothing that I could really relate to ...... nothing there - nothing special. Then last Friday the lady called me and told me that she had "lowered the price" on SEDONA ...... I still wasn't quite ready (I didn't think) ...... but after 4 phone calls on Friday (from her to me) and 5 phone calls on Saturday we decided to meet on Sunday for me to look at SEDONA ..... NOW, it was an HOURs drive to where this horse was stabled at ..... when we got there I spotted her ....... she spotted me ...... I had TEARS running down my face ..... there was a definate connect - a click!! We drove her -- then I rode her. You know -- even with a strange saddle (a dresage saddle I am totally unfamiliar with) I felt comfortable. This horse is truly PUSH BUTTON for sure. The lady said that she notice I had a "good leg" on me - very little pressure was needed for this horse to perform -- however, the lady said that SHE couldn't get her to react with leg pressure --- shoot, I think she's been doing it wrong -- and she's had many different trainers etc. Now, the reason the lady sold her -- she told me that SEDONA's canter just wasn't "up to par"..... OH, too bad for HER -- GOOD for ME!!! I offered her $1500 for SEDONA and she took it (I was really afraid that the lady would be insulted at that offer -- but that's about all I thought I could afford to spend). I still cannot believe my good fortune!! The lady said that she really wanted SEDONA to go to a good home -- and our mutual vet told her that our barn was the BEST place for her to go that he could think of . Wanna' know WHY SEDONA'S canter isn't up to par?? Well, they just recently put those "knobby type" shoes on her (X had the same type and I had a VERY difficult time riding him with them on him). They are great shoes for driving -- not so great for riding. I'm surprised that her "trainer" didn't pick up on that. Oh well .. Sorry for rambling on and on ...... as you can see, I'm totally THRILLED!!!!! --- * Origin: Jean's Trick Horses (Or is that TRICKY??) She jumping the fences? I'm happy BK :>Tush has been inclined to jump something only once.. and it BK :>was a low jump. ;) Nope. I had forgotten to close a gate into one of the turnouts. This turnout has fences that aren't all that great. I turn Shiloh out in it as she's not a fence masher (g), but Fid will push or rub until rails come down...that's what she did. Knocked down the two top rails of one section and then just hopped over. The other time she got out, she stepped over a chain I have connecting a metal gate to a fence post...there's a space between the two that I didn't think she could get through...but she's become a real Houdini! All have been solved. BK :>Well if it's wasn't for Rich, I'd say marry him! :) He's young enough to be my son! And, he's married...to a really, really nice young lady who does dressage training. BK :>You don't irrigate? Nope. Usually have enough rain to keep some grass going. However, this turnout is all dirt...too much horse activity going on in it to keep any grass. I'm also keeping her on dirt to keep her from eating any more than she needs...I can control her intake this way...with hay. Remember, I've only got about an acre divided into three turnouts! Doesn't make for good grass growing no matter how you look at it (g). BK :>Are you kidding? We could swap scavenging stories about the BK :>kids! BK :>Well that one doesn't trim her anymore.. and my current BK :>shoer is far more patient with this kid.. then I've seen BK :>him with most horses..
