We fixed a trot problem which was dropping a shoulder and shouldering into a left hand (counter clock wise) circle. We also actually hit LOPE tonight. She got ridden twice today... there was no need to lunger her or turn her out since she as so laid back. Got on her.. piddled around for a bit then put her back up. Got on her later.. worked on some slow stuff and re-affirmed "WHOA" under saddle since it's typical that young horses don't Whoa well.. then we sat and chatted with someone that we hadn't seen in some time since he moved to Texas. This was the longest I'd had in stopped and waiting while I visited.. Then we went off to work. Went back to work with the trotting problem.. got the lope by accident since she's still trotting fast (also typical of young horses)... then we fixed the left turn problem. Didn't make it off the property.. Will get to it this week sometime.. but since I now know we've got a lope.. I think I'll take the edge off in the arena before we ease out.. The kids a gas.. but I won't work on slowing down the trot till we get the lope down. However.. when we do get the slow trot on occasion.. it's unreal. She moves naturally collected... :) And more then that.. I got on the kid the second time in a real bad mood.. turned it off and went to work.. what a kick! :) She's a charactor.. was standing talking to someone and I had gotten off her for a moment.. there were a set of gloves sitting there so I was talking to the person and waving them in her face.. and actually making contact. I use everything I can to defuse any future problems ahead of time. :) And of course we wrestle for the saddle pad before I Put it on. ;) BTW the guy that was visiting is an old trainer I've known for years out here.. He moved before he saw the baby... chuckle.. all I had to do was two things, mention Zippo Pine Bar and open the door to her stall. ;) He kinda likes her... and he also agreed when I told him I was in no rush.. showing at 3 works just fine for me with this one. ;) BK --- DB A3000sl/001347 * Origin: * Conniption BBS * one fit at a time (1:102/861) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 243 HORSES Ref: ECG00004 Date: 08/11/97 From: KARIN BREWER Time: 07:26pm \/To: BOB KOHL (Read 0 times) Subj: Liz and Max -> > BK>Tried her Email address several times.. never had any success at -> -> > Hmmm... I'd have her broke in >> about 2 years. ;) > Hehehehehe ...... love it Well, I'm doing it for several reasons.. one of course becuase I was tense about getting hurt until I had a better idea of how she's going to work. Then of course I'm in no rush really.. and since the trails are so bad.. I have to work her in the arena more then I'd like. If you push to hard, you'll fry the babies quickly this way. So It's kinda play it by ear... last night was a light ride.. tonight was more agressive. But I find if I give her a day off.. I have to take a step backwards.. so no matter what, we saddle up everyday I can. >> a left hand (counter clock wise) circle. We >> also actually hit LOPE tonight. > Very good ...... !! Well... I have plans to start lopping her more regularly by the end of the week to get the edge off her before I head off the property. I can sadddle her cold and ride her. However tonight we went back to working on the left turns at the trot.. had to go back to the round pen she was so stubborn about it. Took about 15 minutes to get her flexing for the turn instead of dropping her shoulder. We then quit. Bu ther attention span was not good tonight and I took it past the point where I might have quit. >> for a bit then put her back up. Got on her >> later.. worked on some slow stuff and re- >> affirmed "WHOA" under saddle since it's >> typical that young horses don't Whoa well.. > Hummmmmmmm -- that seems to be my herd's FAVORITE command .... > they LOVE the WHOA command ;-) It's quite normal for the babies to take a bit for "Whoa" and a few other things. The kid is curious.. she likes to walk around and see what's going on. Has no problem doing so under saddle. >> hadn't seen in some time since he moved to >> Texas. This was the longest I'd had in >> stopped and waiting while I visited.. > How was she with the 'patience bit'?? Getting better... She's really not bad at this at all.. but I"m not rushing it. Anytime she gets impatient to the point where I'm not happy with it.. she gets tried up for 10-30 minutes. This is something I don't push to hard.. more important things to worry about. >> accident since she's still trotting fast >> (also typical of young horses)... then we >> fixed the left turn problem. > I'm so glad it's going so well!! I've had her up to fire engines with lights and sirens going, I've had her in the middle of second unit filming, I do everything I can with her to let her know. She also doesn't panic when her legs get caught in rope (I worked her this way) and that helped when she cast herself in the arena the other day...
