Got the "postcard pics" today ....... Very nice indeed!! I lOVE your place!! Now - question -- WHY do you hate the Date Palm so much ......??? Our place is full of the Swamp Cabbage Palms (Florida State Tree by the way)......LaBelle is famous for their Swamp Cabbage Festival every February ... NOW, for those of you who don't know what Swamp Cabbage is ...... well, have you ever heard of HEARTS OF PALM??? If you have ever eaten it -- or heard of it -- that's actually SWAMP CABBAGE ..... --- * Origin: Jean's TRICK Horse Barn (1:371/33) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 243 HORSES Ref: EBE00000 Date: 07/09/97 From: BOB KOHL Time: 05:10am \/To: MEG ALFONI (Read 0 times) Subj: Re: Tush-mania > BK :>Yep.. except as much as I hate to admit it.. I need a > BK :>martingal.. ;) > What??!! Not on Tush! Isn't it a little early for all that? Phew, give > the kid a break! There was another reason for this that I forgot to mention.. remember that Tush is a good part CJ... And with CJ if you let her keep her head high... she gets very high and spooky.. Tush shows signs of being somewhat the same. So I want her to get out of the habit of needing to have her head up before it becomes a serious habit. I think even Tellington mentions this somewhere.. Aside from being important to showing.. shrug. Both the vet and farrier seem optimistic about her > recovery, so I won't get hysterical yet..... Don't.. I seem to remember that they've classified three classes of laminitis.. mild cases can recover completely. If you want to see bad.. come on out here and look at the Percheron at the stable.. he's terrible on the back two.. and started on the front left. It was so bad they resected the foot. This is an iffy treatment.. that's not proven in clinical tests.. so.. the owner is keeping him as comfortable as possible since he's a tad old.. shrug. > If anybody knows of any good articles, etc. on laminitis (founder), > please let me know. I've checked the Internet, but our computer is out > of order at the moment, and I'm finding conflicting information about > treatment in the things I've been reading. Several good articles in equus over the years.. I'll need to find some spare time to try and find them. have you kept the back issues or will I need to copy them? > Ever have one of those days when you think you should get out of the > horse business!!!!!!!!! Don't ask.. However after last night's ride, I took Tush directly into the the small pen saddled up without taking the edge off of her.. we did some "remember this" work about walk and trot.. and then headed for the big arena.. She was a charmer.. Man what a kid.. she loves to come over and join in the conversations (can't stand being ignored), and she watches her Mom getting groomed and saddled so she's picking up a lot of CJ's charm.. chuckle.. I've had a couple try for two hours this week to buy her.. and I've had three cars stop on the street to look at her while we were walking. Heck of a kid. :) If she stays consistent.. we'll be heading towards more trotting in the big arena.. Oh yes.. leg yields are in place. ;) And I found my old set of sidepulls.. so I'm using that instead of a martingal. Shouldn't need it much longer. I've also pulled her training bit (with rollers, etc) and given her CJ's simple Copper snaffle.. it's helped. CJ could care less what's in her mouth. Now.. CJ and I were riding with one of the older guys in the stable the other night.. it was warm and we were chatting.. it turned into a 45 minute trot for CJ.. a slow trot since she wouldn't walk slow enough for the guys TB to keep up.. Gave her the night off tonight.. but she's also been pretty dynamic.. aisde from the rear end problems.. which may go away with the work she's seeing. She slipped on the back end the other night fairly badly.. so I'm letting her take it easy for a bit just in case. I know you're a cat lover.. and I went downstairs to discuss a plumbing issue with the manager who's a friend of mine. They have a Serval (sp?), an exotic cat that looks like a small version of a cheetah that lives I believe also in Africa... Head to rump on this cat is about 2 1/2 feet. This serval and I have been friendly for the past month or so as I've had a moment or two to drop over and spend a few moments with it.. but it's been getting progressively friendlier. He's an immature neutered male. Well I went donw stairs and he was very affecionate (unsual).. so I sat down and gave him some attention.. This cat doesn't do affection for more then about 10 minutes max.. so we disgressed into a wrestling match.. chuckle. He just would not let me alone.. and for a skitish semi-wild cat.. he was bouncing and rolling all over me as I wrestled with him with a puppet on my hand (he's not allowed to bite people so I use a puppet to wrestle). What a crack up. As he got winded.. I got up so he'd unwind.. but instead he went to the door to block it.. Oh yes.. this cat is exceptionally smart.. and he does think things out. ;) Nothing like a domestic.. very much like a large exotic.. but much more intellegent. ;) Needless to say.. I was fairly late getting out to the girls tonight. ;) I've got a pic.. but it's not good.. when I get a decent one.. I'll scan it. Oh yes.. He is very scared of my cowboy boots and the horse smells on them. ) BK --- DB A3000sl/001347 * Origin: * Conniption BBS * one fit at a time (1:102/861) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 243 HORSES Ref: EBF00001 Date: 07/10/97 From: MEG ALFONI Time: 07:30am \/To: VICKI NICHOLS (Read 0 times) Subj: pix Got em!
