Well I first put her in the head set I wanted and just used the riens tied back through the saddle rings while I ground worked her.. I dug out an old set of Side pulls that I'm using only as I need to. More then anything else.. I've got to find a bit she likes. So I"m going to be playing musical bits this weekend since I won't have any time for it next week. CJ got a 50 minute trot tonight while I was riding with a friend.. we were gabbing away about his calvary days in Germany just after the war.. It was such a nice ride.. pleasant but warm day and I had CJ in a slow jog to keep her in pace with this fellows TB... I was so involved with the ride that after enough time went by.. CJ decided to spook to get my attention (Well it was the 4th and plenty of firecrackers were going off).. realized how long we'd been riding and the spook kinda got her ouchy.. so we quite. Longest ride I'd been on her in a long time.. and she did work up a lather. Tush got saddled after dark.. lots of fireworks.. took her into the small pen before hand since she was a tad high... did a very light ride with a friend looking at a three year old.. Tush was fine with the fireworks, chuckle.. she was more interested in the 3 year old gelding.. he's kind of a cutey. ;) My daughter the slut! ;) BK --- DB A3000sl/001347 * Origin: * Conniption BBS * one fit at a time (1:102/861) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 243 HORSES Ref: EBC00037 Date: 07/05/97 From: BOB KOHL Time: 03:10am \/To: MEG ALFONI (Read 0 times) Subj: Re: 1 Year ... Doesn't mean I don't love Fiddle and Shiloh, it's just not the > same. Well look slike we'll be having a few that will go down in the next year or so.. Amy, the TB with EPM just came out of remission and had one of the most violent seizures I've seen in a long time. She starts spinning in her stall till she hits her head and darn near knocks herself silly.. I was on Tush at the time and had to hope off since I was worried about Tush spooking and getting Elaine out of the house to deal with it. This is not good.. since there's no real way to deal with these as far as I can tell, unless they keep the horse medicated on some anti-siezure drug.. Then there's Mike the Percheron.. Neat draft horse with rotation in both back feet... and now he's started badly on one of the front feet. He's a game old bird (19 I think).. but it doesn't really look good in the long run.. but then there's folks who are supprised he's still going after the way he rotated in the back feet.. the way he's shod in the back in amazing.. Ah well.. And CJ hasn't been good with her rear right.. been kinda ouchie lately.. I wish the budget allowed some adequine... but we'll just have to work through it and keep an eye on it. Last message I think we were presuming a case of "gravel" and treating accordingly. Well, last Thursday (7/3), she seemed much worse...hesitant to walk, etc. I FINALLY got the farrier out here to pare her down to take a look...he found nothing in her hoof that resembled and infection, fungus, abcess, etc. I walked her around and he watched her stand, etc. After hemming and hawing, he told me he thought it was a mild case of laminitis. She is now sore on both feet (instead of just the right), actually a little more sore on the left now. She shifts her weight from side to side when she's standing, and is putting most of her body weight toward the back. She does not, however, have all the classic signs of acute laminitis, such as heat in her feet (they're just a little warm), fever, very strong digital pulse (it's there, but not banging around), but since we've eliminated just ab out everything else...vet concurs. He hadn't seen her since last week, and agrees with the farrier with these new symptoms occuring. Anyway, we've got her on bute and an antihistimine and hot soaks 2xday as well as a pair of "lilly" pads (they support the frog). Neither the vet nor farrier think this is a severe case, but the vet is going to take more x-rays today and run some blood work. He's a little concerned about thyroid levels... As you all know, Ms. Fiddle tends to be a porker on almost no food...she gets almost no grain and grass hay. But, she stays really chunky on just this. She also has a pretty cresty neck, and the farrier says her feet are more like pony feet than horse's...not sure what he means by that. I'll keep you posted...she's a lot more comfortable this a.m. after her first course of bute, and it's just a relief to me to know what we're dealing with and at least have a treatment that seems to be giving her some relief. Both the vet and farrier seem optimistic about her recovery, so I won't get hysterical yet..... If anybody knows of any good articles, etc. on laminitis (founder), please let me know. I've checked the Internet, but our computer is out of order at the moment, and I'm finding conflicting information about treatment in the things I've been reading. Ever have one of those days when you think you should get out of the horse business!!!!!!!!!
