Not at all.. if you develope good habits now.. you won't have to have the battle later on. Besides.. you know how soft I am on the kids.. using one for 10-15 minutes gently is not going to hurt anything. She "kinda" knows already since I usually set her head ahead of time.. but there's to many things to worry about to set the head by hand right now. Last Sunday (the 15th of June) was the 1 year anniversary of "Baby" passing away. I was a basket case most of the day ...... but, I remember the good times we had together and it made me feel a little bit better. I'm sure that you understand how I feel .... I just can't get over loosing "Baby" ..... Anyway, I thought I'd tell you it had been a year now. OH, I found a pic of "Baby" and me ..... was taken at a show we had been at and I was holding up a Red Ribbon - actually it was only PART of a picture .... we were kinda' on the side ..... but, it WAS us and it wasn't too darn bad a pic of either of us either . Anyway, I searched and search and I DID find the negative (the pic was dated 1993) and I sent it in to have an 8x12 of just the part of me and "Baby" ...... I was so thrilled that I'd actually found the original negative!! I definately felt better after finding that pic -- I know that sounds silly but I'm sure you know how I felt. --- * Origin: "Baby" - Gone But NOT Forgotten!! Our vet, Lucy, got here about 9:30am and didn't get finished with the horses until almost noontime. It was the horses annual checkup, shots, teeth floating etc time. Sham was really almost perfect -- she stood so still while Lucy floated her teeth .... only raised her head one time in "protest" . Lucy said Sham looked good (for her age). We seem to have hit on the right combination of foot care and meds (MSM) for her. Lucy said her coat looked good and she was just about the right weight ...... We did the Coggins test ..... will have the results in about a week but there's no doubt in my mind that it'll be negative as it should be. All the horses were due for their Coggins test ..... It sure reminded me again of "Baby" as it was just that time of year last year that she passed away Then came Tuffy's turn ..... he was good as gold - he got his teeth floated too this time. This was a first for him and he stood ever so still!! He just never seemed to have needed to before now. He's 10 yrs old and Lucy said that his teeth weren't really bad but it should be done this time -- so we did it. X ....... well, he wasn't very good ... he did NOT like those files put into his mouth ..... he would stand still for a couple of mintues then violently throw his head up pulling the file out of Lucy's hand ..... after messing about 15 minutes with him and getting no where Lucy ended up having to sedate him to get the job done. We really didn't want to have to do it that way but there was no other choice. X really wasn't upset with everything going on -- he was just 'bored' and didn't want to do it anymore .... I could NOT keep him still. Finally Buddy had to come hold him (I TOLD you X was Buddy's horse -- X just "puts up" with me ). Then was PATTI'S turn ..... believe it or not, PATTI was really the BEST one .... she stood still -- opened up her mouth when instructed to do so (remember, when I give her the wormer stuff I say "PATTI, OPEN UP YOUR MOUTH" and she just stands there and opens up her mouth) ...... anyway, that's what she did ..... Lucy was standing there, files in hand, and I "instructed" PATTI to OPEN YOUR MOUTH -- and she did ...... it all went very well -- and PATTI really had some rough spots on her back molars too. In fact, quite a large chunk of tooth came off on the file. Shots were given and PATTI stood VERY still accepting everything that was to be done to her in her stride. THEN PATTI looked for "goodies" ...... (PATTI was trained with the reward system -- so, when she's good she KNOWS she's going to get a "goodie" .... That's it .... the herd was definately good for their annual "check up" .... All good except X .... and he was just being a "boy" --- * Origin: "Baby" - Gone But NOT Forgotten!! JP :> Last Sunday (the 15th of June) was the 1 year JP :>anniversary of "Baby" passing away. I was a basket case JP :>most of the day ...... but, I remember the good times we JP :>had together and it made me feel a little bit better. Oh, dear. I hate those anniversaries! May 1 is a bad day for me too...but the time seems to fly by for some reason.....I still have days when I miss Thistle so much I could cry (actually, I do). There's a spot near the trails we used to ride on that I pass every time I go to the grain store, and I think of her every time. I really miss that "together" feeling we always had on the trail...not so much in the show ring, though (g). Just as for you, there'll never be another "Baby", for me, there'll never be another Thistle. Guess we get one in a lifetime, Jean. Doesn't mean I don't love Fiddle and Shiloh, it's just not the same. But I do love the memories, and the pictures sure do help. My favorite of her is with other family photos on a table in my living room. I love to look at it whenever I go by it. It's of her standing in the field the day we brought her here. She's in a patch of black-=eyed Susans and is walking away from the camera with her head turned back to look. I kinda think of it as the way she left us...walking through flowers looking back to say "bye". Wierd, huh? I still remember the anniversary of losing my first horse - in 1971. I'll tell you when it gets any easier. Well, as you know, I found your Web page! Unfortunately, the modem on the 486 finally passed away a few weeks ago, or when I last got on. My roomie's 386's hard drive crashed or something; it just says something about unable to lo9ad operating system. I scrambled around and found an 8 year old TELIX that didn't have this new modem on it but I finally got it figured out - this 686-200 cruises through the Internet but couldn't contact good old Fidonet for me till I got it figured out! Your photo of Mr. X and you is great - will you be changing those intermittently? My house photos taken on Mike's camera were great; they are being copied and I will have FIVE COPIES to send a bunch to everyone who wants one! I have you, Meg, Mike, and Bob down for copies, right?
