DT :>Organizatins is a chore at best with all the animals you DT :>have it would DT :>be near impossible for me. I'm glad you found another DT :>sitter. Well, it was great while it lasted (boo!). She just told me this week that she's moving to New Hampshire and that she'll be leaving around 5/15. So, there goes my 3-day-a-week stall mucker, and my house sitter all in one! at! DT :>Year before last we planned our vacation of 2 days and it DT :>got cancelled DT :>by Dave's job so rescheduled it, again for 2 days, and they DT :>cancelled DT :>half of it. Geesh... DT :>Smokey still has a way to go, Diva is almost done shedding. DT :>We keep DT :>getting wind storms that blow enough dust that its almost DT :>like a white DT :>out at times. We are using fly spray and bug repellant DT :>already. The DT :>lawn is getting cut weekly and I have to water. Well, we had another nor'easter last night. But this time it was rain. Very high winds and tons of rain...the paddocks are soup again. This has been the slowest spring! But, summer must be coming, because the horses are shedding like crazy all of a sudden. Mosquitos are out and the grass is starting to turn green, so there is hope (g). Its almost time to wash and put the DT :>horse blankets DT :>away too. My daffodils are up, but the blooms are just sitting there...don't seem to want to open. My perennial garden doesn't look a whole lot different than it did in January! There is an occasional green leaf cropping up, but nothing like it should be by this time of year. As for the horse blankets...I know if I wash them and put them away for the year, we'll have another blizzard! Guaranteed!! Yep ...... been there - done that . I finally found a reliable farrier a couple of years ago. I'd gone through about a half dozen ..... either they didn't come when they said they would ...... OR, they wouldn't come after I'd called them about a problem .... OR, they didn't do what I'd asked them to do ..... one of them damn near lamed my FAVORITE horse "Baby" ...... then I found this guy I use now. He lives almost 2 hours away from us .... BUT, he's here like clock work every 6 weeks ..... he does GOOD work and when I told him about Mr X slipping and sliding on the pavement he made Mr X's shoes with little "knobbies" (like golf shoes or football players shoes) out of boriam (sp) so he wouldn't slid when pulling the carriage. I was impressed that he knew exactly what to do in any situation that I've had so far. Keep looking for a good farrier .... you may have to pay a little more for him but it's worth it in the long run. My farrier charges $20 for a trim (other's around here charge from $12 to $15) ..... he charges me $90 for Mr X's shoes (all the way around) ...... BUT, I know he's good and he's going to do a good job and that's what counts!!! --- * Origin: "Baby" - Gone But NOT Forgotten!! Yep .... perfect sense ....... I'm "groom" as in handling the horse out of the trailer ...... grooming the horse and helping with the harness/carriage etc. I don't ride with them. HOWEVER, I had another neat plan maybe -- since I'm bringing Tuffy along for company for X ..... then I thought maybe I'd also bring along his cart ...... then trail along at a comfortable distance behind Buddy .... that way when they got to where they were going I could handle X for him (then I would have to dress appropiantly (sp)). > If you plan on showing in harness, then you will have > to find out what's in style and what it is you need to > wear. I never thought of doing that but I'll bet it would be fun ...... And, she pulled another one of her "tricks" (unruly behavior) AGAIN last week ...... I thought we were doing so good together. I took her in the round pen to work her ..... I had her saddled up but only had her halter on with the lunge line and I started to lunge her. She made it 1/4 way 'round in the pen (at a walk no less) and all of a sudden she started to buck .... I want to tell you she would have made a good rodeo horse look bad the way she was bucking ...... Meg, I have no idea what set her off ..... and, she bucked 2 1/2 times around in the round pen ..... she pulled so hard against me that she pulled the lunge rope out of my hands. Here she was bucking - lunge line trailing behind her. When I finally got her to stop, she was quivering and shaking all over. I did manage to get to her and slowly pull the lunge line together. Her actions were such that I didn't know if she was going to stand still or go off any minute. As it was, she did stand still and calm to my voice cooing to her. After she was totally calm, we started around the pen again on the lunge line and she was good as gold. She's dangerous, Meg ...... I know it and I'm really very careful with her. I don't think I'm going to ride her. I'll work her on the lunge line and that's it. --- * Origin: "Baby" - Gone But NOT Forgotten!!
