Well, what we need to find you is a show where people are doing driving. Then you can see what the grooms that ride on the carriages wear. And talk to them and find out where they get their show clothes. Every now and again I do see television coverage of driving shows on PBS or cable. You have a VCR, right? I'll try to keep an eye out and grab something for you. The other obvious thing would be to find you a magazine for people who are into driving, and send it to you -- that way you could see the ads. Unfortunately, a lot of my local newsstands have stopped carrying as many horse magazines as they used to -- and I don't remember seeing that many issues devoted to driving anyhow. Maybe Mike May or Vicki Nichols might have some ideas of where to look? Or you could ask around where you bought your carriage and harness and stuff? --- Opus-CBCS 1.73a * Origin: Sci-Fido II, World's Oldest SF BBS, Berkeley, CA (1:161/84.0) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 243 HORSES Ref: E4J00000 Date: 04/14/97 From: JEAN PROPHET Time: 06:30am \/To: DEBBY TAYLOR (Read 0 times) Subj: Mr X's FIRST Job!! >-> I'm SO excited ....... Well I would start out with the American Driving Society. I am pretty sure the have a web page now too. I am sure if you search on driving or carriage driving on the web you will find some info too. Other than that the Library I can't believe you didn't suggest this one ;-) ) should have some books and magazines on it. I don't really get any driving mags. I know a lot about horses. I pretty much know what I have to do for training and so on but, I was wondering if any one had any good tips or so on. I've been riding since I was 3 and, compete now. I train with Olympians and, my goal is 2004 Olympics. My coaches think/know I have what it takes and so does my competition horse (5 yr old QH Off the track in the summer). It will be a lot of fun with the pony though. The reason I am getting him is because I figure it will be easier to break and train a pony before I do the horse. The horse is going to be a competition horse (hopefully an Olympic hopefull) and the pony will probab;y be sold as a hunter (MAYBE an eventer) we'll see!!
