In the last several weeks it has gotten down and dirty. First the USCF treasurer started pointing out that there was all sorts of financial mismanagement going on within the USCF, particularly a missing $235,000 that is owed to Chess Informant. At this point five members of the policy board decided to muzzle the treasurer and voted to strip him of every duty that they thought that they could, and then stop giving him information as well. The mud has been slung back and forth for some time now, but what is very obvious is that the five members of the policy board are unable to address the issues that are being raised by the treasurer. They are quick to talk about "working together" and the number of hours that they have contributed to chess, but when it comes to addressing the real problems, they either cannot or will not address the issues. I have been reading the echo for several months and only recently has it heated up. It seems that the five policy board members are incapable of realizing just how poorly they come across in this debate. To try and muzzle someone who is raising issues you don't like instead of addressing them makes it look like you have something to hide. For those of you with access to the Internet, check it out at rec.games.chess.politics on the Usenet newsgroups.
