But guess what -- if you were sending it to Bob K., you missed -- it ended up in San Diego. Yep, *San Diego* of all places had snow today. Plenty warm here in Berkeley, though. If you want to know the truth, I think Richard (mine) is behind all this. He decided last week that spring had finally come and turned off the pilot light on our heater. And guess what -- we had a cold snap come through the very next day. We weren't as cold as you folks in the NE, but we too had a big plunge in temperature from one day to the next. Now here it is a couple of days later and it's toasty warm with record high temperatures. Oh, yeah, obligatory on-topic content. I got a catalog from "Country Reins" today (lord knows how they think I can afford *their* merchandise). On page 21, they offer a pair of portable dryers for your paddock boots. The idea is, you put them into your shoes right after you wear them and they dry them out so you won't get mildew. But they say that you can use them to pre-warm your boots before you head out on a long winter ride. I saw this and thought: who's going to want to pre-warm their shoes at this time of year? Then I read my incoming echomail. ;-) Hope all is well and you have dug out by now! Actually, I have my boots on and off so many times in a day, that it probably wouldn't work. However, we have forced hot air heat with nice heat grates in the floors, so that works really well! My boots, hat, gloves and coat are all strategically placed near the kitchen vent during the winter...of course I have to remember to "hide" the boots at night, or the pups make a feast of them. My slip-ons have had the tops chewed off (g), and I now know what boots with Thinsulate look like inside. It also helps to have multiple pairs..... Our 24 inches of snow is now gone in some spots, and down to about 6 inches in most (except for the hugh plow piles). There's about 8 inches left in the arena, so I just might get out there to ride today. Weather has been in the high 50's since the storm, and is supposed to continue in that vein for as far as the eye can see. Let's hope so! And, of course, the sun is really strong, so that is helping more than anything. Everyone's big fear was a rain storm that would melt this stuff too fast and cause flooding, but thank goodness we escaped that. We'll be spending the next couple of weekends cutting and burning the debris. It just kills me to see all the beautiful trees that got devestated. Good to hear from you!
