It was also a Jen started in on us about age 5 or so. Started going to "horse" camp every summer, until she talked her way into working there a couple of years. It was sometime after that when she bought her first horse. Living in the city, I was originally against it, simply due to the fact that it cost her/me $50/month for board in the summer, and $75/month in the winter. She started working at Rotten Ronnie's (MacDonalds) and did earn enough to support the horse, but then didn't have enough free time to spend with it. A vicious circle. I guess it took her purchase of her own place (40 acres) to really get to know the horses. I do hear her commenting that it's really nice to get up in the morning and look out the sliding patio doors, and see the horses staring back at her (their water trough is right across the fence from the deck, all of 15-20 feet). > She then talked a breeder into letting her lease (free) a Norwegian > Fjord horse I have no idea what that is, sorry. > from him. Seems she entered the rodeo under steer riding, and one first for her age group (age 15, I think). If I were there, I don't think I'd be here now. :) > remember an awful lot of good times being spent in the aisle of some old > smelly > barn with the wife and kid and some good old horse people! Well, her mother (my ex) is scared s!###less of horses, and wouldn't go near one if her life depended on it. She knows what it is, but isn't > too > impressed. > Jen asked me to ask you if it's hype positive or negative (whatever > that means). What it means is that she's confused Zippo Pine Bar for "Impressive". There is a specific problem with the horses with Bloodlines traced to the Stud "Impressive" called HYPP for Hypercalamic Periodic Peralisis (sp?).. which basically boils down to a mutation of the cell structure where the horse literally leaks to much potasium into the blood stream. The horse with this condition then has an "episode"... not unlike a siezure. They aren't pretty.. and in the old days the only way to verify the whispered "Impressive Syndrom" was to draw blood during one of these epsiodes to verify potassium levels.. Impressive was the foremost AQHA Halter Sire.. and now has bloodlines that lead out to Paint and Appy amoung others. Any horse with Impressive bloodlines should be tested for HYPP. The results can be: P/P (positive/positive- very rare), P/N (positive/Negative and the ones to watch and regulate) and N/N for clean bill of health. Impressive horses that test P/P or P/N can be regulated for the problem with dietary changes, work regimine and medication. Zippo Pine Bar is the leading Performance Sire in AQHA.. NOT Halter. No problems except some slight conformation flaws that can be rememdied. Zippo PIne Bar horses have set the standard for movement in many breed organizations including AQHA in such events are Western Pleasure and English flat work. I'd suggest you might print this out before you try and feed it back to her. ;) > All I know about a Zippo, is it's a cigaret lighter, Pine > is a type of tree, and Bar is probably where you end up when you've been > bodgered too much. :) Well the last name "Bar" is a famous one leading back to Three Bars.. a foundation horse for AQHA.. You also have Doc Bar a rather famous sire for working/cattle/reining horses. etc etc etc. > .....Bob Da Other --- DB A3000sl/001347 * Origin: * Conniption BBS * one fit at a time (1:102/861) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 243 HORSES Ref: E3J00003 Date: 03/14/97 From: BOB KOHL Time: 01:20am \/To: BOB SEABORN (Read 1 times) Subj: Re: Well, > also.
