How many -> shelties do you have? Can they all be left off a leash? I now have 2. I took them to the groomer Thurday and started crying. Misty loved being beautiful and all the fuss that went with it. The only time I generally put them on leash is when they go to the vet or the groomer. The youngest one has been walked on a leash maybe a dozen times. The two older ones taught her to stay with us and to come so I just don't bother for Mister Dog and seldom bother for Julie unless I'm going into a heavy traffic area or an area where the little one might get scared. She apparently chewed on an electric cord and got quite a shock when she was a puppy so she is a little strange. She doesn't like walking over cords, hoses or anything resembling them and sharp noises like a shock makes. She can be really funny. They love going to the barn and are really great with the horses. Smokey loves it when they go with us. He herds my herding dogs and I try not to fall off laughing. You should see it. Running Quarter from the track. This is the horse that has a scar on her lip where it was sliced for 1/2"+. When we got her you could't touch her head. She is tons better than when we got her but she still frightens easily and we don't subject her to the bouncing of empty milk and grain trucks. The machines that they use to plant the fields are really strange looking and sounding too. She is doing really well with dogs and people popping out of bushes and loud speakers. We don't want to push to hard. We both prefer to take things slowly and make sure that she feely really good about herself. -> How old is she? Is she used primarily for arena riding? She is 11 now. Yes, we haven't been real comfortable with working her outside of the arena until lately but if she acts goofy while we are saddling her we work in the arena till she is behaving. Dave has had one wrist broken in 5 places from one fall and the other cracked from a fall. He used my horse Smokey in a lesson Saturday. When he rides Smokey in a lesson our trainer concentrates on training Dave not the horse. When he rides Diva she concentrates on training him to train the horse. She has had him rising to the trot without stirrups for 10+ minutes. She wants him to develope his leg muscles and balance. I think she is a little sadistic too. You should see him attempt to walk a couple of days later. He got one of Smokey's little acts Saturday too. He finally figured out how to get Smokey to go when Smokey doesn't want too. He is use to riding super sensitive horses and Smokey requires legs of steel. Smokey has always been an angel for him before. Rounding perfectly, moving forward, responding instantly. I hoped it wouldn't last. Smokey needs someone besides me to make him do what he suppose to.
