Well, I'd have to laugh at some of the halter class antics I've seen or been part of.. ;) THe worst I've seen was April Sliegh (sp?) has a kind showing her youngins in halter classes.. this kid did NOT know how to handle the youngsters :(. She flipped more then one of them. And tell your vet that some horses do NOT do well on Corn oil.. > Hehehehehe ....... could be. Sensitive horses can be prone to exhibiting stress in many ways.. even CJ gets a little loose when extremely nervous. The first stone I ever saw came out of Bambi, there were a total of five.. however the big one was huge.. The one that CJ passed is about the size of a golf ball. > In regards to the Vinegar, do you suggest to > put it in the grain feedings or what would be the best way to do this?? I out mine on cubes.. Trish put hers on Grain.. depends on how you feed the horses. I do NOT grain for any reason (personal preference). > And how much would you suggest (ration wise)?? Thanks again.. Start small.. about 1/4 to a 1/3 cup to start.. increase very slowly over a several week period until you get up to a cup.. then stop for about a 4 - 6 weeks, then do it again for a week.. Really depends.. I have a horse I know is suceptible to them.. so I tend to make sure she gets a decent amount.. at one time I had CJ up to a bit over a cup and a half per feeding. however I gave her enough cubes so it wasn't bad... and actually she likes it! :) She'll pass over alfafa and all kinds of goodies for the vinegar soaked cubes! :) How much and how often is the source of a good debate depending. always wise to ask your vet.. although some vets will tell you that feeding vinegar is a waste of time.. again.. I've personally seen it work and have the stone to prove it. The vets that tell you it's a waste of time will tell you that because they feel that the vinegar is nuetralized by the stomach and the stomach's ability to adjust to the intact of acid.. and at the same time it's better to use grain since the fermintation of grain produces acids.. Again.. I do not feed mine grain.. nor would I feed mine enough grain to really have this work.. and I've seen vinegar work.. Well I never was to that point.. however I'm going to loose three teeth to CJ's antics some years ago.. the teeth got so weakened *IF* you need to.. just take the break.. and stay away.. one day you'll find you can get back up on the horse and it'll be workable. >> babysitter and rebuild your confindence on it.. like I >> did with Budda down in OC years ago. > That's why I've been riding Shammie ..... she's "safe" and I don't > feel intimidated by her. I > guess the whole thing boils down to "watch for the signs". Well let's see now.. in thinking about it.. let me give you some of the "Signs" I know about: 1) Horse colic'ed, then coliced several times.. normal signs. 2) No "normal" signs.. horse just started moving diferently.. went on for about a week or two then the colic hit. I know of several cases where the "Signs" aren't normal at all is the point. Stones are a bitch.. you could even have the horses guts radiographed once a year and you might not see them.. understand that by shear bulk.. then intestines of a horse are difficult to radiograph. Yep.. there is.. The "old" CJ was kinda back today... WEEEE! She was SO hot it was beyond believe.. so instead of trying to work through it in the public arena (where the footing is better), I took her back to the stable arena.. BZZZT! stopped got off and took her into the small pen... YEHAAA!! Only took my reins off to send her around a few times to get the kinks out.. BZZZT! wrongo.. she was walking around on her back legs.. finally though I'd settled her down... BZZT! Wrongo.. when I went to take her out.. she was airborne and kicking like a mule.. Needless to say... I settled her down after a bit.. but didn't get much of a ride out of her today... When I took her back out much later.. and lunged her.. she was MUCH better.. I think she was feeling pretty good! Glad she didn't do much of the nonsense while I was in the saddle bless her heart.. ;) I think when I had her out to work the second time she had a guilty consense.. ;) BK --- DB A3000sl/001347 * Origin: * Conniption BBS * one fit at a time (1:102/861) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 243 HORSES Ref: E1P00014 Date: 01/20/97 From: BOB KOHL Time: 02:56am \/To: JEAN PROPHET (Read 1 times) Subj: Re: Possible Problem?? >> I'd quit branning him more than usual and stop the >> psyllium unless you ;think you need it....I don't >> think this has anything to do with a colicy type of >> situation. I wish I could put her out to pasture for a but.. but every time she gets really fired up and goes flat out.. she gets sore on the left front knee.. Last week I kept her in the stall for that reason and because it was raining..
