I'm sensitive to her size right now. She's still small and I still get ticked about those snotty H/J types barely trained and dangerous versus what CJ was going to be what CJ ended up accomplishing.. There were a few days I felt like reaching over and pulling the kids out of the saddle or slipping their bridles off. There are hundreds of small towns through the valley though so its not real surprising. I always wonder if parents who name their kids things like that secretly hate their kids. Well there is rain in the forecast again I hope it misses. The Tuolumne is still 3' above flood and the Merced River is also still above flood. The bridge I use to cross all the time will be closed until the flood waters are gone then they will see if they can fix it. I > guess the whole thing boils down to "watch for the signs". Actually there is no absolute way to watch for signs of a stone.. even X-rays are not a sure thing depending on who you talk to.. so the reality of the situation is: preventive maintainence (i.e. diet), and keeping an eye out for colics, especially when they seem prone to them. The single worst stone I've seen had NO warning signs.. the horse just coliced, we battled to colic for 3 days (actually 2 1/2) before it went to the hospital. The largest of 5 stones was the size of a soccer/bowling ball. This horse survived and recovered, and that's when we first heard of apple cider vineger although the debate still rages on that one. > Also, do you advise when one is transporting a horse from state to > state, do they need a "Patomac Fever" vaccination? I know about the > Coggins test, but wasn't sure about this one? Depends on where you're coming from.. we've only had very few confirmed PHF cases that I'm aware of.. but if you'd feel more comfortable I'd say yes.. then understand that the first vacination is actually two, the horses usually have a reaction to these shots.. then *IF* you forget to give them again the next year.. you start all over again. The single best bet is always to ask your vet. Yes, just last week I went to visit a local vet and she was kind enough to show me what the stones looked like. Some of them looked like pebbles, but my goodness, a few were so large I gasped to the amazement of the size of those!!! In regards to the Vinegar, do you suggest to put it in the grain feedings or what would be the best way to do this?? And how much would you suggest (ration wise)?? Thanks again.. --- TriToss (tm) Professional 1.0 - (Unregistered) * Origin: Land of Lost Souls BBS (1:202/1108.0)
