However you'll need to keep > him isolated enough to make sure! I kept him in for 2 days -- manure looked fine. In fact, I went really slow and easy with him -- didn't ride but tacked him up like Meg suggested. I'm inclined to believe that it was ME nervous that set HIM off nervous (at least that's what Meg suggested could be happening and at this point I think she's right). At this point I'm just trying to keep calm and natural when I work him....I'm doing better and he's doing better right now.....hopefully we'll BOTH get over this together. Do you supose he's afraid he'll do somehting that'll scare me??? Or, do you suppose he's just picking up my vibes that I'm not too confident with him right now?? The funny thing is that he APPEARS to be calm .... no "jittering around" - NOTHING like "Baby" did when she was upset about something. We'll see .... Thanks for answering. --- * Origin: "Baby" - Gone But NOT Forgotten!! On > the other hand, you say he shows no other signs of > nervousness or resistence, so let's move on .... Yes -- I'm beginning to think nerves are the biggest problem ...... Meg pointed out that even if they don't show nervouness any other way - it has to "come out" somehow .. > 2) Corn oil. Wonder if the extra 'grease' is just too > much for him. > Wonder if the combination of too much corn oil and > the bran could > be 'cleaning him out', if you know what I mean. Is > there a reason you need to give him corn oil? Is his > diet short of other roughage? Hummmmmmmm-- Bob K. pointed out I shouldn't be doing that right now ...... I give him the Corn Oil per advise from our vet (1/4 cup 1 time a day -- I feed 3 times a day so he usually gets the corn oil at "lunchtime"). > 3) Exercise. Maybe I'm wrong, but if my memory is > correct, exercise stimulates the gut and helps keep > everything moving, right? So maybe there's something > amiss in the combination of feeding and exercise > times. When do you feed him and when do you work him? I either work him after I get home from work (that's about 4:30pm) .... he would have been feed around noontime) -- OR, I work him on the weekends around 9:30am (he would have been fed at 7am) ..... AND, sometimes I work him again on the weekends around 3pm (again, lunch was at noon). > Anyhow, I wonder if part of the problem might be the > combination of too much corn oil, work too close to > feeding time, and the exercise all together. I know > *my* gut is unhappy when I eat too much greasy food at > lunch and then run around at my job immediately > afterwords. > :-( Now, that could be -- I kept him in for a couple of days - cut out the oil and psyllium altogether ...... I only tacked him up as Meg suggested ..... I also groomed him -- talked to him -- cooed to him (all that good stuff ).......and he's been fine. It might have just been a combination of everything together as he's really been AOK. Buddy drove him Wednesday night -- I trailered him Thursday night ...... and I rode him last night -- he was fine.....(the trailering was up and down our road - he hadn't been in a trailer for a long time ........ we did it nice and easy -- he hopped in the trailer for me as I asked him to do) ...... he pooped soon as he got in the trailer but it was solid and looked good). I'm really inclined to believe what Meg said -- it was ME "upsetting" him ...... I'm trying to do better and stay calm.....I didn't realize he was such a sensitive little guy. --- * Origin: "Baby" - Gone But NOT Forgotten!! CJ's hurt me pretty good over the years.. and I just worked through the worst parts by forcing myself to function.. Even if it meant taking CJ into the round pen where I know she wouldn't act up and just getting on for a few moments.. then getting off and putting her up.. The single best thing is to find someone with a babysitter and rebuild your confindence on it.. like I did with Budda down in OC years ago.
