Well we just haven't had any fog like that out here in the daytime to try it in.. :/. When Tush is rideable.. frankly I doubt she'd care. Rode X this afternoon for almost 2 hours -- rode mostly in my round pen but after that we rode in the pasture here. For the most part X was really pretty good -- I'd not really worked him for a long time (he's been pulling the carriage with Buddy most of the time now). BUT, I've decided I want to ride him in the Trail class at the next show (and, maybe walk/trot too) so I figured I'd better get to work on him and do some practice sessions. He walked AND trotted over the poles laying on the ground in the arena ..... we trotted around cones ...... and did side passes too. He's "rusty" ..... but then so am I . He'd probably do better if *I* remembered to cue him properly. We even "practiced" with me riding (no hands-no reins) - just putting him through his paces with leg and voice commands. He did pretty good all things considering. This is really the first good workout EITHER of us have had in a long time. I'm feeling much better now - I'm trying to get over my "fear" but still am not ready to lope him yet. I may NEVER get over it totally - and, in that case we'll just walk and jog . My back is feeling better -- and, I've lost 22 pounds so far .... I'm determined to loose another 25 pounds. I'm wearing clothes now that were REALLY too tight when I was showing before ..... sure makes me feel good. My balance is better ...... I'm gaining some of my confidence back....slowly ........ but then I'll just take it slow and easy until I'm really comfortable. I miss "Baby" like crazy . The next show is a week from Saturday (the 11th of Jan). We'll see what happens. --- * Origin: "Baby" - Gone But NOT Forgotten!! You know, I am wondering if there is anything written in stone about this. We worked Casey very lightly till he was four or five as we were concerned about his legs. They're really stout, but he is still a cob. J.D. lost interest in his horse for about 3 years, so I worked him occasionally. Ralph has borrowed him and worked with him a bit this year, but when we took him on the trail ride last week we were all very surprised at what a nice little horse he had turned out to be. Casey was less mature at 7 than my first horse, a POA off the range, was at 2. I am guessing that you grow up faster when you live out on the range than you do when you are almost a backyard pet, like Casey is/has been all his life. Do you think I could have "made" him mature faster if I had worked with him more instead of concentrating on Dub and Spot? BTW, I understand how nice it must be to work with Tush - no bad habits picked up from previous owners. I look around sometimes and think that Casey is the only horse around here who has never needed any kind of martingale...he hasn't learned yet that bits can HURT you. ;) --- Maximus/2 3.00 * Origin: ElseWhere (1:114/212) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 243 HORSES Ref: E1200060 Date: 01/01/97 From: VICKI NICHOLS Time: 09:37pm \/To: BOB KOHL (Read 1 times) Subj: Re: H2O > Jeez, we're lucky if we get ten inches a year. Spot is, how do I say this tactfully - intellectually challenged? Lori used to think I was joking but after watching her for a few months announced to me that Spot was dumb as a rock. Which isn't a problem, most of the time, as she has a heart of gold and is very willing. I think Spot stands around and hums the song from "The Wizard of Oz" that goes something like this: "Oh, it would make me quite as merry As a kitten in a dairy If I only had a brain."
