Have you been riding MB>for long? I should have asked in the message if you were looking for MB>English or Western -- I assumed English :) I've only riden a horse 3 times in my life. I've never tried English riding only Western. Correct me if I'm wrong, but is English riding without a saddle? Or riding side saddle? Either way, I would be too nervous to ride English. I would be afraid that I'd fall off the side. The thing I like about the trail rides is that the horses are used to having inexperienced riders, and they are more gentle. I know it makes me feel better that the horse isn't going to throw me :-). There is a riding school at Don Mills and Eglinton, but it's probably expensive. I just like horseback riding for recreation not as a career. Livia * SLMR 2.1 * All wiyht. I've been snooping the net, but the only thing I found @as -> rec.equestrien and the Pet Care Forum, @hich also has a vet service for -> horses. I'll check this out! BT@, if anyone else has horsie sites on the -> net they kno@ of, please post the info here. rec.equestrian is about the only newsgroup (similar to Fido's 'echo') that is general horsey discussion. Please be prepared with your suit of armor if you post to rec.equestrian. There are a few people there who delight in firing up their flame-thrower...and a couple who seem to have no goal in life other than to try to make themselves look good at other's expense. (Did I mention that sometimes they fail...<>...) Not vastly different than some parts of Fido, but certainly not what you're accustomed to if you've spent a lot of your hours on the net reading and writing in -this- echo. (For a preview, I suggest you spend some time in the 'Law' echo or the 'politics' or, if you can access it, one of the sysop echos... <> <====truly evile grin thingy....>) I guess there's something on AOL...maybe on Compuserv, too...I don't go there. There is a horse racing newsgroup, a rodeo one, and one (I think) alt.vet.medicine or something like that. If you want a complete list of newsgroups, go to http://www.yahoo.com oR www.webcrawler.com (or any other search engine) and tap in newsgroups...you'll get references - chase those...and away you go... your server may not carry it, so be prepared to whine until they do or vote with your feet... ohmygosh...You don't really want aLLLL my horse BookMarks, do you??? Karen Pautz' page (Mike gave you the address below) is a great place to start... ...there's also an English site (Aberdeen University Riding Club) which was apparently the grand-daddy link site. http://www.abdn.ac.uk/~src011/list/index.html/ http://owl.frontier.com/pedigree/ Thoroughbred Pedigree search. Not complete database, but useful all the same. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be any similar kind of page for any other breed. The AQHA has a webpage, but they charge for pedigree searches and don't allow anyone to do it on their own. They're at: http://www.aqha.com/ MM> Try: MM> www.freerein.com/haynet/ If you add 'index.html#toc' after the last forward slash ('/'), you skip past some junk (my opinion) and get directly to the listings a page... oh...and http://users.why.net/mjjacks/receq.htm - brings up a FAQ (frequently asked questions) that was pulled out of rec.equestrian (the newsgroup) - questions put to the group and the answer(s) posted in response. MM> www.ansi.okstate.edu/breeds/horses/ mmm...or replace /breeds/horses/ with /library/equine.html If you haven't been there lately, Mike, you should...it keeps improving. There's also the Chronicle of the Horse. I thought I had the URL, but couldn't find it in my list. Time to re-read some of it, I guess. MM> www.monashee.com/fjord/gateway.htm A Fjord Horse Pony site, no doubt. Haven't seen this one...will take a look. MM> The first one has links to a lot of others too. yes...and there was another good catalog site, but it just died... [so-goes-the-net] :o This is hodge-podge, but maybe you get the idea. I think it's really wonderful what you can find. There is an incredible amount of horse related stuff and resources. Equestrians worldwide seem to have taken to the world wide web. This is good in a lot of ways...not so good in a few others... ;) The moral of my story??? The moral of my song??? While there's some good 'stuff' n the internet, there's no equivalent to this echo...none so gracious and genuinely polite - even when you disagree. I guess that's a sort of: Good Work Bob... .
