How old is the flash code in your modem? IIRC, HST Cellular disappeared with the implementation of X2. There wasn't room in the Courier's memory for everything, and USR sacrificed HST Cellular to make room for X2. In any event, it appears to vary with the age and capabilities of the modem's SDL. The manual for my Courier (purchased in January, 1995, lists the following in the &Fn section: "Note, however, that &F0 is always loaded into memory if DIP switch 10 is ON. &F0 Load No Flow Control template settings &F1 Load Hardware Flow Control template settings (Default) &F2 Load Software Flow Control template settings &F3 Load HST Cellular template settings" With the currently installed v.90 SDL, my Courier reports: HELP, Ampersand Commands &Fn n=0 Load Factory Configuration n=1 Hardware Flow Control Cnfg. n=2 Software Flow Control Cnfg. Between the manual and the modem, both Bill's value for &F0 and yours are confirmed. :-) Ken Whiton ... Well, June isn't that far away. Temperature-wise, it feels like it's right next door! :-) But, we get antsy waiting for our upgrades, then when we get 'em, we gat antsy for a local modem to tie into. The fee is probally going to be around $40 per month. Internet using cable modems is not yet available in Austin, but it will be (according to the person in charge, it will be installed in the "early birds" by the end of July). The problem shouldn't happen, of course, but it _can_. I'd like KS> someone knowledgeable to verify this, before I mess up my NT again. ;) A Winmodem needs a virtual driver that contains essentially the "modem software" - not just a .INF file. The VDD supplied with a Winmodem is usable on Win3x and Win9x, but not on NT - because NT's internal architecture is quite different. To use a Winmodem on NT you need a VDD written for NT - and apparently Dell has one available for systems they sell. A Winmodem will work on _any_ OS - if you have a proper driver. The trick is finding the proper driver. :-) Rick --- Msged 4.00 * Origin: The Warlock's Cave, Ottawa ON (1:163/215.39) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 242 USR MODEMS Ref: FA100009 Date: 05/14/98 From: TOM RUTHERFORD Time: 10:38am \/To: JEAN PARROT (Read 6 times) Subj: information On 13 May 98 10:22:00, Jean Parrot said this to Tom Rutherford about "information": JP> And a nice morning to you Spaceman Tom.
