The profile is stored with &W, and read with I5. It overwrites the active profile (read with I4) when the modem gets ATZ'ed. I think the Sportster has a couple of stored profiles, but anyway...The templates, loaded from &F, &F1, and &F2, are "Factory default", "Hardware Flow Control", and "Software Flow Control", respectively. The templates and the profile(s) have nothing to do with each other, except that the templates can overwrite active profile, and you can store it with an &W. (I think the Sportster lets you do &W or &W0 for the first stored profile, and &W1 for the second one.) JP> Now is your turn at the trigger.... ;-) What's them black specks all over your face, Jean? While it wouldn't hurt anything, it won't do any harm either. The advice is best applied when first using a modem who's history you do not know to establish a known starting point. As for profile 0, it wasn't long ago that USR modems shipped with the &F0 (software handshake) as the factory default and AT&F1 first thing was a very good idea. I think that the change of factory default came with the advent of V.34 in 1994 (as I recall). Gene Lowry --- msged 2.07 * Origin: Bigfoot's RBBS - Tucson,AZ - HST/V.34 - <8:902/1> or (1:300/11)
