Do the other places you I think the old advice still applies. Phone line problems are usually in your house. If you own your phone lines and find noise on your modem connections, it's good practice to replace the cable with stuff that's surely twisted pair, and make sure the connections are bright and clean. Discard phone cable with aluminum or coloured sheath if the type isn't marked as twisted pair(?), because you can't tell if it is and cheap stuff usually isn't. It all carries voice nicely. Office LAN and data line installers are careful with this. * KWQ/2 1.2i * Guelph ON --- Maximus/2 3.01 * Origin: Batman BBS, Waterloo,Ont. For the benefit of the uninitiate, what's the Upgrade Wizard? With the Couriers, all I've been concerned with is getting and running a SDL. * Silver Xpress V4.4P [Reg] --- Platinum Xpress/Win/Wildcat5! v2.0 * Origin: Get All Your Fido Here! telnet://docsplace.dynip.com (1:3603/140) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 242 USR MODEMS Ref: F3P00010 Date: 03/19/98 From: WILLIAM T. McClain, > GREAT NEWS!!! The new upgrade code for your Courier modems is days away from being available for download from the 3Com (formally U.S. Robotics) web site and we wanted you to be the first to know. The web site you will need to go to is http://totalservice.usr.com/56k/courier.html. We expect to have the new code up on the web Monday March 23, 1998 and be shipping our brand new Courier V.90 56K products. Some additional information of note: - All customers that have purchased native x2 capable Couriers or have upgraded their Couriers to x2 are eligible for FREE UPGRADES to the V.90 56K standard - Customers with V.34 Couriers can upgrade to the V.90 56K standard for $60 - The new V.90 software is completely backward compatible with x2 so you can access servers running either code (or of course lower speed standards where appropriate) - Our initial testing with V.90 has shown excellent performance (in many cases even better than x2) - For those of you that also own Courier I-modems (the least expensive form factor for hosting 56K connections, in server mode) the new code should be available at that same web site FOR FREE, within a week or so. - For those of you that are using International versions of the Courier products, the V.90 upgrade code should be available in early April for analog modems and later in April for Courier I-modems Lastly, we at 3Com would like to thank you for your continued confidence in our products and want you to know that we will continue to work hard to earn that trust. >Daryle Brown >Manager, Global Product Marketing PS Be on the lookout for a new 3Com product, OfficeConnect 56K LAN Modem . . . this is a multi-user (with integrated 4 port hub) V.90 router for small offices and technology advanced homes. Guaranteed to be the easiest to use product of it's type. And value priced (expected street price of less than $299). >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> > ___ Blue Wave/DOS v2.30 * Origin: The NeverEnding BBS/Deltona,FL/407-860-7720/bbs.never (1:3618/555) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 242 USR MODEMS Ref: F3P00011 Date: 03/18/98 From: JOHN PARKER Time: 09:19pm \/To: RICK COLLINS (Read 5 times) Subj: "Modem" As everyone turned to listen, Rick Collins said this about ? - RC>They're connected to digital lines, therefore technically they are not RC>"modems" but "terminal adapters".
