Jean, it seems you're using more your Rockwell-chipset-baset modems than USR modem. The commands for USR modems are I4 for the current settings and I5 for the settings saved in the NVRAM. &V is for the "other" modems. As I said in my previous message, &V is a command for Rockwell-chipset-based modems. As far as I know, USR has always used I4 and I5. You should check that not-saving problem with the USR technical support. I don't know that modem but I really believe that it should be able to save the settings to the NVRAM. Which tests have you done for being sure that the problem actually exist? Ismael ___ CRR QWK 1.60+ --- Maximus/2 3.01 * Origin: Juxtaposition BBS. I know; and I put pressure on people to maximize their effeciency and document the work for which they expect to be paid where the name of the game is billable time. The folks doing support are in the middle of a squeeze between the users, who expect to get whatever it'll take in the way of time to solve the problem or to otherwise meet their needs, and management, which is trying to keep its support costs under control and maximize the effeciency of its support staff. Both goals tend to be best achieved when the reply is responsive to the question. (We've all seen, and laughed at, the various lists of tech support exchanges with such people over the years.) We expect our knowledge and expertise to be respected and become frustrated when it's not, when we're required to engage in what we know to be exercises in futility just to satisfy the person at the other end the situation's as we say it is. * Silver Xpress V4.4P [Reg] --- Platinum Xpress/Win/Wildcat5! v2.0 * Origin: All The Fido Conferences. telnet://docsplace.dyn.ml.o (1:3603/140) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 242 USR MODEMS Ref: F3J00017 Date: 03/14/98 From: BRUCE WILSON Time: 10:28am \/To: RICK GRAHAM (Read 5 times) Subj: Re: Cannot hang up :( On 13 Mar 98 08:23pm, RICK GRAHAM wrote to DALE FRAMELI: > MODEMHANGUP "||^|~~~+++~~~ATH||~~~" RG> Stick an ATH0 in the Hangup string & see if that works. I think the problem is that's what tech support folks generally are used to dealing with, not with those of us who're familiar with the hardware and software (only likely to call/write when there's a real problem and to _know_ there's a real problem when we do). I had a Sportster internal die on me once. Being an internal, it supplied the COM port. I'd used Quarterdeck's Manifest to confirm the port wasn't there any more, but the tech I got made me "jump through the hoops" with MSD, to the same end, because that's what he'd been trained to do and he wasn't familiar with Manifest. Getting RMA on the "hot swap" replacement which was "bad out of the box" in that the port was there but it wouldn't respond to any commands, was even more difficult/frustrating. Years ago, I set off alarm bells at local assessors' offices when I called to check on property values while working as an auditor for a finance company and reviewing mortgage loans. Everything went fine until I asked a question which indicated I knew more than the average person about the subject, at which point a deputy immediately referred me to the assessor or the assessor asked me if I worked for the state Department of Revenue. :-) * Silver Xpress V4.4P [Reg] --- Platinum Xpress/Win/Wildcat5! v2.0 * Origin: All The Fido Conferences. telnet://docsplace.dyn.ml.o (1:3603/140)
