(www.cheapbytes.com) i've seen a number of comparisons of the different distributions here lately but they all seems to be rather glossy like the above (good for beginners, has all the latests stuff, etc)... i was wondering if someone might give a little more detail... an example, i was reading in the little booklet that comes with that 6 cd set in the (i think) linux developers kit (i was helping a friend install redhat at the time) and one of the things it did was describe some differences between slackware linux and redhat linux - from what i understood of it slackware requires a reinstall for upgrading to newer versions while redhat is more 'modular' in that you can just upgrade the kernel... i've got slackware myself (an old 1.2.1 kernel version that i got with linux unleashed some time ago, maybe a couple year now) and i'm looking to upgrade to something newer but i'm not tied to slackware in anyway and was wondering if there were some more indepth comparisons that could help me make a better choice 'for me'... the above described modularity it certainly a plus in my book (though i was kinda under the impression that the same could be done with slackware.. who knows...) ... wazzu ate my homework... --- Platinum Xpress/Win/Wildcat5! v2.0 * Origin: Get All Your Fido Here! telnet://docsplace.dynip.com (1:3603/140) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 241 LINUX Ref: F4500008 Date: 04/04/98 From: MICHAEL ROWLEY Time: 10:30am \/To: ED SUDA (Read 2 times) Subj: Linux Slackware and X 01 Apr 98 06:24, Ed Suda wrote to Michael Rowley: MR>> :) The problem I am having now is getting X started.
