Firstly, excuse me butting in, but this my help you all having trouble. I do not use AOL, but have had similar troubles. Taking your example ifmail-2.12.tgz ->>> ifmail-2.12_tgz The second one is what results here. I get a download box, to ask what I want to call it, so I edit the fisrt . and change it to "_" and take the last "_" and change it to a "." If the file was ifmail-2.12.tar.gz ->>>ifmail-2.12_tar_gz change first . to underbar to _ then delete "_tar_gz" replace with .tgz hay presto !! I (finally) have X running with VGA-16 server. I find that the screen size is too small for many games and applications. I have a (IBM8513?) VGA monitor and a new S3 1meg PCI video card, so I tried using a supposed SVGA monitor and have not been able to do any better. In fact, using the SVGA server I have not been able to do better than 200 by about 300; less than the VGA server size. None of the accelerated servers seem to recognize my card. My questions are: What are fail-safe, universal SVGA parameters to give about 600X800 resolution? Is there a place on the net where specifications are available on monitors and video adapters? How about the Metro-X server? Is it any less painful to use? BTW, thanks to help here, I have X running on a herc mono system. Not very clear, but not too bad either! I've got it to a point where I can telnet from NT to linux, but that's about it; I cannot "see" linux directories in the NT machine nor does the linux machine show in Network Neighborhood. I know some 3rd party software, such as Hummingbird Maestro, on the NT machine will provide additional functionality, but I need to find out the "maximum" interoperability capabilities wiwth native NT. However you have learned, as I have, that best to be careful first and ask. I have mine in my /bbs dir. Just move the archive, 'mv (file) /bbs' fter running mkdir /bbs. Of course you can name it anything you want. Once it all unzips you will find a readme and info on reading the rest of the docs. You may find some of the docs hard to understand but just keep reading and if you really cannot figure it out send me netmail or E-Mail and I will help. I will be happy to furnish you with some of the script files I use to startup and maintain BBBS. They are not complex as I am a believer of the KISS principle. BTW 'ftp.bbbs.net' is not my site, that is in Findland I believe. Good luck and keep me posted. Mainly cause of the menu configuration is not easy to change but can be with script file constructs. It should be noted that BBBS runs in OS/2, dos, W.NT and other platforms. However the Linux port is very solid, Never crashed on me yet. I use several scripts to do the running and maintainence of BBBS so the three b's is not needed. For example my current log i have script 'l'. There is three BBBS help echos that I import from Finland via ISP, Another local, S.D. new BBBS/l user and I have discussed getting those echos on the USA backbone. All we need is a few requests for it to be included. Forget how many needed.
