The one I used (just before the Troubles) was also from Open DOS but it must be close to a year old by now. I don't remember any "extended mode." BTW, sorry about the jagged appearance of this message. It appears that your editor is inserting CRs at the end of each line of your text. The only place there should be such characters is between paragraphs where you actually pressed Enter, and at the end of quoted lines (which your editor should keep short in order to prevent a similar effect). Otherwise the text is supposed to be "raw" with no formatting characters of any kind. Then of course my editor comes along and does not properly detect and deal with this condition. Instead it leaves your CRs in (the ones at the end of the short lines) and then inserts its own when it decides the lines are too long (as it should). TimEd was very good at correcting this as I recall, so I suppose I got spoiled. :) PM> Of course, since MS seems to think the first sector should be 1 PM> instead PM> of 0 and the first cluster should be 2 instead of 0 and IBM PM> BASIC in ROM PM> and GWBASIC both written by MS says 1/3 = .3333334, why the hell PM> should PM> anyone expect DOS to calculate sectors correctly! Currently my 486 carries only a 28.8 modem, but I will add an ISDN card to it soon. IP-Masquerading works perfect with WWW,FTP,IRC,QUAKE and everything else I could think of right now.. There is a new version of the PLIP-minit howto as of January 1998 out now, but it doesn't cover IP-forwarding. But when PLIP is set up correctly, you just have to follow the IP-Masquerading HOWTO, and there will be no problems.. just replace eth0 with plip0.. -Hans Dumbrajs / hans@clinet.fi --- Terminate 4.00/Pro * Origin: Al: "I'm gonna have fun so I can't be with you." The thing you name here is a stupid DOS-Hack. Your card is generating an *NMI*, at every time the Midi-Port has data. Then the DOS-driver looks at the data and applies its own Midi-Emulation-Code on it. Under Linux, you don't have to do such tricks. Just get awedrv and drvmidi, and you can play midi through you on-board synth. > I was hoping that this could be enabled by a simple user program to turn > it on at boot time and then forget about it, but I cannot find any > references As it is done in real processor software and not on the SB-board, you need these bloated Creative drivers. > Are there any publicly available sources for drivers that take full > advantage of the AWE 32? Has there been any, there is no break at 2.0.30. You can use the same awe-patch for 2.0.28 or 2.0.33. The newest version (awedrv-4.0.2 or better, important is the 4 can even handle sound banks larger than your WaveTable-RAM, by analyzing the MIDI-File first and after that it only loads the required samples.
