If I recall, an early version used a better method (mode 1,0, dunno) but it was dropped because of Nelson's PLIP.COM not being compatible. I guess now that MS products are being phased out things like this are no longer a concern.. ;-) I forget if klogd's -c4 parameter was mentioned; if timeout messages are appearing on your screens that will avoid them.. BTW, are you able to get IP forwarding to work with plip? I don't think the PLIP mini-HOWTO has been updated since pre-ELF and any comments you have along these lines would be appreciated. --- ifmail-tx (i386 Linux) * Origin: 300 miles East of Seattle, WA (1:346/15.1@fidonet) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 241 LINUX Ref: F1X00001 Date: 01/26/98 From: JAMES VAHN Time: 05:45pm \/To: JAMIE KOWINSKY (Read 4 times) Subj: Re: want to get started... > I've messed around with linux on the school server, but I wanted to > try it out on my home PC.... I've been running CDROMs on my Future Domain adapter under DOSLinux for several months now. I have two single platter drives and one 7 disk changer. I have noticed that the 7th disk on the changer is not accessible and I have been trying to discover why. I notice that the drives show up as /dev/scd0 through /dev/scd7. When I tried to "mknod /dev/scd8 b 11 8" (all others have 11 and then 0 through 7), a mount is not possible. So! apparently I am limited to 8 disks (two singles and the first 6 on the changer)? How come? What to do?
