More trials, tribulations, and adventures in LinuxLand: I've been using fetchmail/mutt/sendmail for a while now with little trouble. Now, I'm trying to allow a second user to suck off mail from another mail server. My mental model of how mail works told me to set up a /home/2nduser/.fetchmailrc file and have my 2nduser run fetchmail to get new mail. This seems to work OK except that fetchmail (or procmail?) is unable to deposit the mail in /var/spool/mail/2nduser. Is this the way a second mail user should be setup? If not, then how? If so, then WTF am I doing wrong? Should fetchmail be run only as root? How/who would divide the mail into two mailboxes? OK, I lied about /fetchmail/mutt/sendmail being trouble free. I can't send mail to anyoneelse@myisp.com. Can anyone guess how my setup is in error? I recently decided that I needed to use some Linux file space on another partition. This was to make more room for setting up X. So, I deleted /usr/X11R6 and then hooked in an empty partition there via fstab. This seemed OK; then I decided that my news spool would be better off on that new partition, also. So I copied and then linked var/spool to usr/X11R6/spool, which is on the other partition. Then I found that there was quite a bit of X stuff under /var/X11R6, so I got it moved over and linked to /usr/X11R6/varX11R6. Well, you can see that this has the potential of becoming quite a mess! Can anyone give me any guidelines or suggests on using more than one partition for the Linux directory structure? I can imagine, oneday, forgetting that what the /usr/X11R6 partition was being used for and then wiping it or using it for a conflicting purpose. Can I use it without M$ Windows? (Maybe I'm just getting old, but I would rather use the keyboard than a mouse). Thanks in advance for any comments, opinions, or tips. Jim ... I've just recently downloaded dosemu 0.66.7, and although I think dosemu is very impressive, it seems to have a dpmi problem. Please don't everyone mail back at me and say "ALPHA status, what can you expect?" etc. cos I'm aware of that. It's odd because the programs I want to run, worked with 0.64. Diagnostic programs like MSD tell me I've got 0.9dpmi, but when I try to run a program that requires it it says something like DOS/16M error: [32] DPMI host error (possible insufficient memory) Is this a bug in the program or have I configured it wrong since the configuration format has changed a bit? If there isn't an update soon, I might go back to 0.64. Now for X. I have X running, a few windows open, then I'd flick over to another virtual console, then go back to X and find the mouse isn't working properly. The cursor moves around the screen but the mouse buttons have absolutely no effect whatsoever. I can't even click on a xterminal to save my work. I am forced to close it down using the keyboard. Annoying. Is it a bug inside XFree86, fvwm (that's the window manager it happened to last, although similar things happened to FVWM-2-95) or is it gpm? Or is it something I'm doing wrong? Thanks for reading through all that, apart from that, linux runs fine.
