I am planning on creating such a game for the PC. I know there are a few games from American Laser Games that are similar but not sure if they use FMV in such a way to make it feel as if you are moving along naturally. I just have to call ALG and ask if they would be so kind as to explain how their gun works or (yeah right) give me the design specs. I would very much JN> like to hear your defense to that statement. Now, now, flame boy, listen up. Quake is not 10 times better than anything. It might look good on my system or yours, but a lot of people out there have 486-66's, 486-100's, P5-60's and so on. The fact is that Quake's graphics programming is sloppy! It wastes processor cycles like a madman. Par example, I can play D3D smoothly at 800*600, but Quake won't run well in 640*480! I call that bad programming. Keep in mind that these games are all different! Quake has a distinctly different feel than D3D, albeit too much like the Doom environment for me. It seems altogether too "grungy" for me. The Quake idea *is* decent, but the AI is terrible, and the resource utilization is utterly inefficient. Don't say I'm blindly following 3D-Realms either. here are some complaints I have with D3D and you've heard me air them before. ut, please, see the light. One is prompted to ask you the same question you ask so many other newbies: "Have YOU played Shareware Quake?" Because it sure doesn't sound like it to me! -=> ---- Nikhil Shringarpurey <=- L8r! The game programer selects a target and adds a small 1-20 pixel bitmap that flickers at a pre-determined rate, and it strobes for a pre-determined time. If the gun is in the right position, and the triger is pulled, this will close the circut in the gun. There is a diode in the gun that detects the strobe, and if the circut is closed and the diode detects the strobe, it sends the information for a "hit" to the processor. The game reacts accordingly. It works like those laser-tag guns, only backwards. It only takes a mild understanding of `lectronics to build an interface for a PC. American Lazy Games does not use this technology, the gun is just a dummy switch that when pressed at the proper time will show a little movie clip of the worst actors on the earth.
