In every game we've done there I think your screwed. I think Quake will kick the **** out of Duke. The way John Romero explains the game makes it sound awesome. Duke just didnt feel like an ID game does. When I had the Quake public beta I probably played that more than I do Duke. I dont play Duke at all really, I just played it when I first got it so I can see what all the new levels are like, I really didnt find anything too excitingly new in this game. When you play Duke you dont even care whats aroundd the next corner. Quakes monsters are WAY better than Dukes by far, they are smarter and they are much better looking. I saw one message where one guy said "whats the point of monsters ducking in Duke when there is an auto aim?" I totally agree with that, Duke just isnt fun for me anymore. I only have the game to play it over modem really and thats it. Quake sounds like it will be a fun game to play by yourself. The Quake character is even better than the Duke character, for one thing the guy in Quake is actually breathing when you walk close to him, when you walk up to Duke he looks like a cardboard cutout, he doesnt move at all. I still like Duke and all but when Quake comes out Duke will not have a slight chance. From the pictures i've seen of Quake it already looks better. I cant wait for Quake to come out. Well, I just thought I would tell you how I felt, thanks. --- Squish/386 v1.11 * Origin: The IC BBS - BFS HQ! - [33.6k V.34+] (306) 694-5864 (1:140/129) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 240 APOGEE GAMES Ref: DA200014 Date: 06/01/96 From: BRYAN TUFTS Time: 08:59pm \/To: EMANUEL MUNTEAN (Read 4 times) Subj: Apogee EM> I think your screwed. I noticed there is no way for a user to load up a saved game from the command-line. Would it be to hard to add this into the game? The reason I asked is because I've made a front-end alignment shell for Doom/DoomII/Heretic/Hexen/Duke Nukem 3D but Duke has many great command-line options but is missing this one. Everything can be set/toggled except saved-games. Its just a thought. Thanks. The copy I'm confused as to your standpoint here, but I think i get the gist. I've tried Quake and it really wasn't a big deal, just another las-minute attempt to boost ID's sales over the New Big-Sellers, Apogee, after Duek got out and they saw what the Build 1070 (I think..correct me if another ver.) could be manipulated into doing, and they had barely scratched the surface of its potential and spent like a couple days fiddling with video support and therefore ended up with a perpetually dim, linear game that reminded me of a HUGE deathmatch mode, without knowing the others on-line, because of the inavailability of any extra props or actors in the game. As to your quote here, I know the feeling. Try playing (I shouldn' say it, but) Witchaven. The only ranged weapon is a bow with puny little arrows and some magic fireballs, and those are WAYY later in the game, thus you spend maybe 2 levels ttempting to fight a lynch mob of projectile-tossing baddies, who inevitably gang up on you, often (believe it) a phalanx formation. It's impossible without cheat codes. You have a couple swords, an ax, a spear or something, that damned ow, a paring knife, your gloved fist, and some throwing hatchets. You can't hit enemies unless you're right there, and there's no fun left in the game. However, with Duke's awesome array of ranged weaponry, a slew of enemies can be met from afar, and still some up-close. The range certainly makes the difference. --- Renegade v10-05 Exp * Origin: The Hole In The Wall (303) 841-5515 USR V.34 (1:104/651) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 240 APOGEE GAMES Ref: DA300001 Date: 06/01/96 From: BRIAN DICK Time: 09:43pm \/To: JEREMY BLACK (Read 4 times) Subj: Re: Duke Nukem Women JB> I think the ladies in Duke3d we're just added for the hell JB> of it. LC> LC> I think it would be a good version considereing the potential of the LC> Psony hardware. There's always a good reason..In this case, the sheer price of the system, I mean, who goes out and really plops down close to $500 on a PURE GAMING system, like the Playstation, therefore there's only a TINY percentage of people who own them. So, the game developers LOSE LOTS of money converting a game intended for the PC to such an odd format, like they did trying to get DOOM on a SNES cart...it never works, and the money involved brings companies to their knees. there's no market for the game developers to try, they get 100% sales from the PC, no fooling with 86% here and 4% here and 1% there and 9% there....when split up, it doesn't do well. You obviously own a PC, buy he registered version!! --- Renegade v10-05 Exp * Origin: The Hole In The Wall (303) 841-5515 USR V.34 (1:104/651) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 240 APOGEE GAMES Ref: DA300003 Date: 05/27/96 From: ROLAND MEIJERINK Time: 04:11pm \/To: ROBERT WHITTEMORE (Read 4 times) Subj: Duke Nuke 3d codes Hi Robert, Date: 23-May-96 Time: 18:59:38 Subject: Duke Nuke 3d codes RW> Anybody have any codes besides RW> DNKROZ,DNSTUFF,DNITEMS,DNHYPER,DNCLIP,and RW> DNCASHMAN?
