--------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 238 VISUAL DISABILIT Ref: EFW00003Date: 11/26/97 From: ANNE PAGE Time: 12:59am \/To: ANN SABONAITIS (Read 0 times) Subj: THANKSGIVING Thanks for the Thanksgiving wishes, Ann. Same back to you. Monday was my wedding anniversary. 32 years! When we got married, it was Thanksgiving Eve. Some years our anniversary falls on that night; other times it is on Thanksgiving Day; but this year it came several days ahead of the holiday. I'm glad you are enjoying the center and even happier to know you accomplished your goal of getting to read the daily newspaper yourself via the internet with your adaptive equipment. I knew you had serious doubts about trying to get the Blazie disk drive, but I had no idea you were considering a PC with braille output instead. If the Rehab really will get you one, I think that's a good way for you to go. Can't write much now. Very busy. Please say a few prayers next week for my mother who will be undergoing elective but major surgery on December 2, which is her 84th birthday, that the operation will be successful. Her problem is not life threatening but very annoying and uncomfortable to live with, and the surgery is not life threatening either, but her internal tissues are very fragile now and we don't know if the repair will hold. A less invasive procedure was used last year and only held for four months. This time the surgeon will reach the organ wall needing repair by going through the abdominal wall, so it is more major with a longer recovery period than last year. I am worried because she is a year older now. But she is in good health and very badly wants this operation to give her back her quality of life as far as physical activities are concerned, so neither my sister or I would say anything to discourage her from having it. But inside of ourselves we are worried that she will be going through this procedure and suffering for several weeks while she heals only to have it fail because of her fragile tissues that are typical of a lady her age. And, of course, there are always some risks of damage to some other organ as the surgeon moves the problem organ to another position and attempts to fasten it to something else to keep it from causing a problem again. So I can't help worrying. Have a happy holiday season, Ann, and try to think of only the good times with your mother instead of being sad that she is not with you. I know this will be your first Christmas without her, and it will be hard, but she would want you to enjoy yourself with the family, so please do it. I don't use Arkenstone's reader, but I'll bet it will recognize TIF files for you. I think you have to use the fax option when you select the type of material to recognize. Anyhow, here is the information about the file: PCX2TIF.ZIP 17669 11-05-93 convert PCX or DCX image files such as those produced by some Fax software to TIF format. This is a freeware program from Stephen Baum, f the Reading AdvantEdge. If you can't get this file for some reason, contact me and I will email it to you. I agree. I wonder though if you could use the Key label feature in aSAP to at least make your key say "back slash". I think ALt-L is key label. I have a demo of Flipper and Flipper does allow you to pass any string along to your synthicizer after the word whos pronouncation you want to change. Good Feature. Vocal Eyes loads its dictionarys with the synthicizer drivers but limits their size. perfect dictionary feature would be one taht lets you pass on control strings to the synth, loads high, and is unlimited in size. By they way, do you or any one else know anything about nOvel DOS or D R DOS? There is supposed to be a newer dos that allow multi tasking. --- Opus-CBCS 1.73a * Origin: BlinkLink - Perceiving is believing! 412-766-0732 (1:129/89.0) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 238 VISUAL DISABILIT Ref: EFW00007Date: 11/26/97 From: JOHN ALTMEYER Time: 01:51pm \/To: JEFF DUBOIS (Read 0 times) Subj: fax to text => I've also got the front end mailer configured to distinguish fax/modem => connects and I can currently receive fax. => => The problem is reading them. I figure if ANSI can be converted to RIP, then the fax format can be converted to ASCII. I think I'd like to give it a try. I'm test driving a programme called BGFAX. I've had some success running another programme MSG2FAX which takes a *.MSG message left in a private are by a user on the BBS and faxes it for them when they log off the system. I would be nice to be able to recieve fax as well, and be able to autopost them in an area. I'm sure I'll get it done although my to-do list is pretty long. If you have access to the net a web search will find it fairly quickly. I think I found it on Bob Juge's site but I'm not 100 percent on that one. Let me know if you can't find it locally and we'll see what we can work out. You could also login here anytime using the name "guest guest" and pick it up as well.
