I think the single worst depiction of a GP> blind man appeared in one of the movies about a German shepherd GP> called Lad. It showed this guy after his dog had died and he was GP> pictured as completely hopeless. There was a sequel, of sorts, to that movie, wasn't there??? ("Son of Lad", or something like that...) How accurate do portrayals of individuals and circumstances have to be??? Did we EVER think that "Lad" and "Son of Lad" or Mr. McGoo were anything but caricatures or convenient contractions of life, As a kid, I NEVER comprehended McGoo as irreverent, to seniors or the blind! (Actually, I am not sure I comprehended that McGoo was blind!!!) I did hate Heidi, though, if that helps... I did have misconceptions about BEING blind and life. I still have them... My misunderstanding isn't the function of a cartoon or a "schmaltz-ee" dog movie.... It was just that I didn't know, and didn't have to know!!! Did Gene Hackman's portrayal of the blind man that befriended Peter Boyle's Frankenstein character in "Young Frankenstein" get any grief in its' day?? In another movie, "History Of The World, Part II", Brooks had a blind guy with INCREDIBLE hearing.... Sr. Mary Leo explained that phenomenon to us in the second grade, almost 40 years ago.... I do know Mel Brooks has some regrets about his treatment of women in some of his movies... chester ... Hi Jim: -=> Quoting Jim Fletcher to Tom Perry <=- JF> Hi Tom, thanks for the note. Ditto! Being in a hurry and a bit paranoid I thought my typos had made you conclude that I was a gooney and earned me the bottom oh your "answer" heap. JF> The Bumper Cat is quite a good pal. I believe that. I used to know a guy in Vancouver, he passed away in the spring, and he was a multiple sclerosis type, confined to a wheelchair and losing a lot of limb control. Trevor depended on his buddy, Clive, a monkey, to do a lot of chores for him. Clive had a zippy headband and road on his head or shoulder whenevr Trevor wandered from his home base, the William Rudd House, on a hospital ground lot. I know the nurse there. Judy Coholan, from Saskatchewan, who lived in Peterborough while at University and training for nursing. Pets make great companions if you know what I mean.
