My ballot listed eight candidates from so far right they look rather nationalistic to the left of Communism. I don't know what Gayle's U.S. robotics modem problem was, but glad you and many fidonet sysops have found them especially the Couriers rteliable. One participant on my blind-l mailing list had a real problem with getting his USR modem upgraded to x.2 and I gave him the name of the former president of U.S.R. as someone to talk to or leave voice mail outlining his specific problem to. Seems within 24 hours his problem was resolved to his satisfaction! Now that is pretty good. I have had toask senior U.S. R. management for a favor about twice in my life and honestly been rather happy with the results too. ... "Could you continue your petty bickering? In fact the transit system in virginia runs a lot slower than it does in Maryland. The only areas where public transportation is somewhat useable are alexandria and arlington. That is close in virginia. You have the dash and fairfax connector buses but they are only useable during the rush hour. --- Platinum Xpress/Wildcat! v1.3 * Origin: The TALKING HUB * Alexandria, VA * (703) 549-5612 (1:109/632) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 238 VISUAL DISABILIT Ref: EA400002Date: 06/03/97 From: ANN SABONAITIS Time: 03:50pm \/To: ANNE PAGE (Read 1 times) Subj: hi ahow about internetting me at ann`chamber.worcester.ma.us ok? anne, i'm finlly over my loss. still miss mom but am stronger. i visited her grve. grve. its lovely with flowers. my braille lite is out for repairs. i'm not sure about braille lite round robin. too many problems with mail. we can still send letders but heavier stucf of more than 2 pounds we musst pafor--i'm boiling angry. not at you--at post office for althat baloney. braille lite is 5 pounds but we insured it. --- TriToss (tm) Professional 11.0 - #66 * Origin: Keystone BBS * Shrewsbury, MA * 508-753-3767 (1:322/743.0) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 238 VISUAL DISABILIT Ref: EA400003Date: 06/02/97 From: LILLIAN.ACKLEY Time: 07:44pm \/To: ALL (Read 1 times) Subj: Re: PACKING CHARACTER? I hope you can help me with my problem in uploading prepared messages by Telnet. Blue-Wave does not work for me - it will bundle the messages, but timesout, and does not bring the messageshome. Also, it will not upload messages through Telnet, either. I can copy messages, and could prepare messages off-line and transfer them with ASCII. I try to do that, and a transfer will look perfect, but the messages never reach the persons they are addressed to. This only with Telnet. My equipment will up/download satisfactorily when I am not using Telnet. I regularly use ASCII to send manuscripts to my newspaper and in internet correspondence when I am not using Telnet. . You said you had a large assortment of equipment which makes BBSing more accessible for the blind, so I thought you might know the answer to my problem. I am becoming very discouraged, and I do want to continue to use Fidonet. . Thank you if you can help. . I saw message from you thismorning, and decided to write to you and let you know that I have found several services to Telnet to. I am writing this from Dan Kysor's GBX, but have also joined Castle in Connecticut, The Quest in Georgia, and a brand new one, Fire on the Bayou, operated by Joe Bruchis, which think is in Louisiana. . I tried several times to log-in to your friend's service, but was =C booted out" when it came to the place where I had to indicate that I could not use ANSI graphics. . It is good to see your messages again, and I hope you and your husband are doing well. You can write me in Blinktalk, Prowrite, or Memories, or by Internet at: lillian.ackley@cyber-quest.com. . Harvey, Yes, I have a question concerning this...Has anyone else, when they questioned Speak to Me about the availability of instructions for a product in an accessible format, been treated as if they were asking for gold? I had heard that the founder for Speak to Me was blind, so frankly, I was totally amazed when one of their representatives acted as if I were talking Greek to him when I asked about instructions for their bread machine on tape. Like you said Harvey, Speak to Me doesn't sell products particularly for the blind, and yes, they are pretty straight forward about whether any particular product's speech is usable by us, but don't you think they should be making documentation available in an accessible format? They might not be marketing products specifically for the blind, but I'm willing to bet that 90% of their sales are to visually disabled people anyways, and the other 10% mainly to sighted people buying for their visually disabled friends!
