There is always a way to get around theese kinds of problems. I guess from my view point and being a woman thats easy for me to say. I use a deep frier all the time for making my frenchfries and don't get burnt. I guess that sounds impossible. I always toutch hot appliances very carefully. About the doughnuts, If I were you, I'd put some of the batter in to a glass measuring cup and pour it in to the maker. You will probably have a few disasters, but eventually you will figure out your own method for getting the right amount of batter in the maker. We can do things if we try. I always tell people that with most things there is a way to improvise. You will just need a sighted person who is willing to help you figure out a way to do it. If they are helpfull, they might say a cup of batter will fill the whole maker, so you can put a couple of spoonfulls of batter in to the measuring cup for each individual doughnut. Don't give up, just keep on trying. I know it can be done. I'd do it if I had the machine. Carolyn ... I would love to set up my own food service facility in a HH> local office building or buy an existing one, but that takes money. Hi Harvey, Another suggestion. You might look into getting a Small Business loan. I understand that they are often available on good terms for minority business people. Certainly, as a blind person, you are in a minority. Also, in this area at least, there are groups of retired business people who volunteer to assist those wishing to get into business for themselves. They can help you develop a plan of action or evaluate a plan you may already have. Perhaps contacting the Lions Club or any other group in your area to which business people might belong would be a place to start. Good luck. More than once I thought of giving it up. I EF> didn't, and I'm very happy I hung in. Training with my second dog EF> was a piece of cake. Thanks for the encouragement. I'm hoping that since a lot of the new stuff won't be so "new" anymore, I'll be able to just relax and enjoy the experience of learning to work as a team with the dog. I was thinking today that it's kind of like people who ride horses--they work as a team with the horse too. Granted, they can see where they're going, but they still can't treat the horse like a car (I'm speaking strictly travel-oriented here, not care-oriented). If the horse doesn't want to go left when those reins are pulled, one had better consider why. Is the hose simply looking at something interesting, or is it uneasy about something...? I think one of my problems the first time around was that if the dog didn't do what I told it to, I didn't really know how to respond. I wanted the dog to be like a cane, where I always knew why my cane was hitting whatever it was hitting, and with a dog that's just not the way it oges. --- Blue Wave/Opus v2.30 [NR] * Origin: BlinkLink - Perceiving is believing! 412-766-0732 (1:129/89.0) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 238 VISUAL DISABILIT Ref: DEJ00009Date: 10/09/96 From: ERIC TROUP Time: 04:19am \/To: STU TURK (Read 2 times) Subj: Donut maker ST> My solution to the frozen dinners problem is to use a microwave ST> oven - no preheating necessary. My employer thinks I have a great attitude and personality, but is hesitant to give me a job because they don't know what I can do there that will be worthy of putting me on the payroll, and their corporation (it's a retail store) doesn't want the responibility of paying for adaptive equipment or having to make modifications to the store (which IMO probably wouldn't be necessary). I'm not sure the problem lies in rehab though. If adaptive equipment were more affordable, we wouldn't *need* to rely on a government agency so much, and that would solve that right there. --- Blue Wave/Opus v2.30 [NR] * Origin: BlinkLink - Perceiving is believing! 412-766-0732 (1:129/89.0)
