Resources can be found on both the WOSM Web Site and on ScoutBase. The following is the latest circular from Danny Schwendener who is the World Co-ordinator for the activity. Although this is the first year of JOTI (officially) there is quite an amount of interest and we are very happy here at ScoutBase to advise leaders trying to organise the event locally. The location for JOTI information in the UK is http://www.scoutbase.org.uk/activities/index.htm Regards CHRIS WILKINSON ScoutBase UK ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Note that due to the regular updates on our sites, you will need to use a web browser such as Internet Explorer or Netscape to get more information. We will not be able to provide the same information through E-mail to all users. If you really have no way to access our web site and are confined to E-mail, drop a message to joti@world.scout.org and we'll try to help you out. INFORMATION ON CHAT AREAS / IRC ------------------------------- The main part of JOTI will take place on the Internet Relay Chat (IRC). Where to find the necessary software, how to set it up and which Channels and Servers you should connect to is described in detail on the JOTI home site at http://www.scout.org/joti/ The site also gives you a few rules to follow and has pointers to further information. LIST OF E-MAIL CONTACTS FOR JOTI -------------------------------- We have received a large number of requests by people who were looking for E-mail addresses of other scout groups which they could contact during JOTI. We are happy to announce that the JOTI Home site now hosts a list of E-mail contacts which is growing daily. To see the list, point your web browser to http://www.scout.org/joti/ and select "E-mail Contacts: Show List" in the side bar. If you plan to base some of your group's JOTI contacts through E-mail, we encourage you to add the group to this list. There is a menu item on http://www.scout.org/joti/ which allows you to do this. If you do not have access to a web browser (and please only in this case), send a message to joti-email@scout.org and give us the following information: - the first names of the members in your group - their ages - the country where you live - your group's E-mail address during JOTI - What kind of people you're looking for (e. 2 p 2,p Explo 2 who do conservation projects") - 2-3 lines about your group. HAVE AN ONLINE ACTIVITY OR IDEAS FOR OFF-LINE ACTIVITIES? LET US KNOW! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- If you are preparing an on-line activity for JOTI users, such as a treasure hunt, a quiz or on-line game, please let us know. We are compiling a list of resources which will be made available on http://www.scout.org/joti/ through a service similar to the E-mail contact list described above. The activity list service should be up and running by wednesday night, but meanwhile, you can send us a short description and the URL of the web page where this item can be found to joti-activities@scout.org. 40TH JOTA EASTER EGG HUNT - LOOKING FOR HELP -------------------------------------------- In celebration of their 40th birthday, The JOTA team is proposing an Easter Egg hunt on the Internet. The idea is that the images of the 40 JOTA patches are hidden on various web scout web sites throughout the Internet. The goal of the hunt is to find all 40 patches. The first one who manages to do this and can fax the logos to the World Bureau in Geneva will get a prize sponsored by * TIMM 1.3 * 101: A Scout Scarf (101 uses for a Scout Scarf) -+- OLMS 2.52 UNREG --- WtrGate v0.93 Unreg * Origin: Oodles and oodles of : Noodles! Baden-Powell House. Release Immediate 16 October, 1997 World's Largest International Scout Event Jamboree-on-the Air 18/19 October 1997 Over half a million Scouts in more than 100 countries will talk to each other this weekend (October 18/19) during the worldwide Jamboree-on-the-Air. It is the 40th anniversary of the event where Scouts use amateur radio technology to speak to each other, exchange television pictures and even use amateur satellites to communicate worldwide. This year also sees the first Jamboree-on-the Internet when Scouts exchange pictures, news and messages about themselves and their Scouting activities using personal computers. There will be over 200 amateur radio stations operating from Scout Headquarters and camp sites throughout the United Kingdom. To mark the 40th Anniversary, a special amateur radio station is being operated from the Headquarters of the 79th Reading (Berkshire) Scout Group, the birthplace of the very first Jamboree-on-the-Air in 1958. It will be official radio station of the World Scout Bureau, the secretariat of the World Organisation of the Scout Movement, which now has 25 million members in more than 200 countries. An international team of Scout radio amateurs will operate the station including Les Mitchell, the UK Scout Leader whose initial idea led to Scouting's largest international event. I agree. Leadership by example is good. I have been in two troops where the adults actually formed a patrol and did patrol tasks - but each was assigned to an area of responsibility for the troop. In one troop there was an ASM actually assigned to each patrol, others did things like transportation, etc. as all were also on the troop committee in some capacity. I guess the thing that I believe is that Boy Scouts is for the Boys not the adults and anything coming to the adults should come from their service to the boys. --- * Origin: NetComm BBS 303-730-7045 (1:104/603.0)
