Scouting Interactive launched at the beginning of this year and has attracted readers at the rate of 1500 each month and the numbers are growing. Recent publicity has been given to the pages in Educational Publications and they are seen as a "safe" place to browse to for young people who are new to the Internet. Adventurenet and the ScoutNetwork are soon to launch and will produce exciting developments for Scouts at the older end of the age range. Your Group can be part of these publications just by sending in information, comments, views and photographs to appear on the Web Site. Often it is a fault at the receiving end but usually it is because of duplicate addresses on the list server. Whilst the list server cannot store two identical addresses in the same list it cannot tell the difference between the following: 123456.1234@compuserve.com and fred.bloggs@compuserve.com or fred@bris.ac.uk and fred@bristol.ac.uk These are two examples of duplicates in the last two or three months. The easiest way to sort out a duplicate is to examine the header of the message. Look in the TO: field and if the two addresses are different you know that you are listed twice. I agree that the important scouters are the ones working directly with the boys. JE> "Professional JE> Scouters" to me is a term JE> used ignorantly. I have the "Guide to Safe Scouting" and it answers most JE> questions. If a leader attends most of the offered JE> training, you get the answers to questions that the JE> professionals have. Most of the questions I've had deal with specific events, such as camp, District Pinewood Derby, etc., which are organized by the Paid Scouters. How JE> many times does a "professional" say, I do not know, or JE> tell the volunteers that we must do something that, in JE> real life just isn't practical and may border on unsafe? I've never gotton a bad or inaccurate question from the Paid Scouters working our District. Our District Director has served as Cubmaster several times. Our District Executive doesn't have the depth of experience that the DD does, but is experienced. Both men work directly with the boys at District campouts and events. The DD serves as Summer Camp Director for the Council. We are fortunate to have these 2 Paid Scouters working with us.
