I have been SH> having similar problems with my troop too. We have very little SH> parent involvement, and the kids are undisciplined and don't care SH> much. We also have a lot of kids with ADD as well. Can anyone help? My son has boardline ADD and kids in Cub Scout age are just very active. I've had one boy just lay on the floor and refuse to do anything. He got up when I told him I talked to his Dad regularly and would tell him about his uncooperative attitude. I've had to put my son in timeout many times. With the younger boys, you can light a scouting spirit candle at the eginning of the meeting and if anyone misbehaves, extinguish it. Make sure your boys are in uniform - this really helps. Follow the recommended schedule for the meetings. An active pre-opening really helps. Don't expect the boys to stay seated during the entire meeting. If in doubt, talk to your training coordinator or DE. Hope this helps, Don Cubmaster, Andrew Jackson Council Pack 12 --- Maximus 3.01 * Origin: No Regrets, Clinton, MS (601)924-8247 9P-5A (1:3632/65) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 237 SCOUTING #2 Ref: DEC00005 Date: 10/01/96 From: ANTONY LACEY Time: 10:00am \/To: KEITH DAVIES (Read 3 times) Subj: Form 'W' Keith Davies previously gibbered to Antony Lacey ... My Scouts and fellow Scouters call me Beau. I am an assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 266 and also the Pack Committee Chairman for Pack 266 in Olympia Wa. You said your committee does not want a particular individual for Scoutmaster. Did they say why? Sometimes the adult leadership has to make difficult decisions for your own safety. On the other hand, if they don't have a valid reason, you have the right to argue in the individual's favor. Perhaps there is an Assistant SM who you can all agree on?? If your Troop is having this many problems perhaps you can suggest that your group gets help from your local council or district eecutives. Are there succesful troops within your disrtict? SImply go "up the chain of command". there are a LOT of resources for you out there. As far as fun, don't forget that along with all the hard work you do for your ranks, Scouting is supposed to be FUN! Our troop plays a game after our meetings(time allowing!) One of their favorites is "capture the flag". Of course camping, hiking, boating etc., can also be fun as long as it is well planned and done safely. As far as getting Cubs to cross over, our Pack has a "Rally Weekend". We take the 2nd year Webelos out to a campsite for a day and teach the 1st class skills, such as Knots, Knive and Axe safety, Firebuilding, etc. Last year we had 50 Cubs attend from various packs, and 25 of those joined our troop!
