I visited a few times the San Jacinto Girl Scout Council. It is located on Hwy. 59 close to the summit. They should be able to help you out. I did not keep the address after moving, so check the phone book. They have a library in the council office. There should be several Service Team with their own libraries. They might require GS membership to be able to check books out. That is $6/ yr. I used to live in Mission Bend and was a member of South Texas GS Council and used Richmond and the Fort Bend main library. If there is anything in specific you would like to know I would be glad to help you. It would be great if GS could use your BBS. You really have your work cut out for you! It seems to me that a lot of mons get into guiding/scouting the same way....daughter/son need a leader NOW or the troup/company will fold. I was very active in Scouting (boys) ladies auxiliary. We were the unit that gave support (mostly financial) to the group committee that looked after the boys. I had 2 sons in scouting at this time and, wouldn't you know it....the brownie leader was leaving and there was no one to take her place. This is how I started. That brownie is now 28 and I just left active guiding 2 years ago. I must get my act together and get to Trillium meetings. Trillium is for guiders (we call leaders for all the girls units, guiders) who are no longer active. It's a way to stay in touch and help the guiding movement if you so wish. How many divisions do girl scouts have? We have "Sparks" ages 5 and 6. Then we have "Brownies" 7 and 8. "Guides" are next and they are 9 to 11. "Pathfinders" are 12 to 14. Our last group is "Rangers" and they go to age 17. --- QScan/PCB v1.17b / 01-0348 * Origin: FidoNet: CRS Online, Toronto, Ontario (1:229/15) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 237 SCOUTING #2 Ref: CGZ00003 Date: 12/27/95 From: JOHN REVELL Time: 12:12pm \/To: MIKE ASSEF (Read 4 times) Subj: Moot MA>Where does the term Moot come from? Hi Mike. From what I've been told, "Moot" is the Gaelic term for "A Gathering". Hence; the "Wee Moot" held in Kentucky is a "Small Gathering" Hope this clears things up. Somewhere along the way, we have forgotten what scouting is about. It is about camping, developing character, and bettering ones self. It is not the "Play with new technology" club. I think that the INTERNET merit badge should come out just as soon as we have the TELEVISION merit badge. To answer your question, I think that a requirement in the computer merit badge book to explain on line services would be sufficient. David Torbert ...
