I would and do trust my scouts. Were a relatively new group, 3 years old. Most of the S/P are around 14 years of age. Of course there are a few good scouts, but mostly, well. JM> I think you had better take a closer look at scouting JM> as I have found this to be the exception, NOT the rule JM> and if you are one of the Leaders of these Scouts I JM> would take a long hard look in the mirror Well actually I'm a scout. --- Maximus 2.00 * Origin: Desert Heat BBS (1:2613/105) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 237 SCOUTING #2 Ref: C2U00003 Date: 02/23/95 From: JON-MICHAEL PORTER Time: 09:21am \/To: LORNE WHITE (Read 4 times) Subj: Scout Law/Baden Powell Youre silly!! I love it! Well I just kinda of let the other kids do what they want as long as they don't interfere with the real scouts. I mean i think it's worth it just to know how to survive in the wilderness, you know? Did you hear about those abusive wilderness therapy camps that will starve you and if you don't walk they will drag you by a rope around your neck. If i ever got sent to one of those I would want to know how to start a fire to burn it down and then how to survive by myself. --- Maximus 2.00 * Origin: Desert Heat BBS (1:2613/105) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 237 SCOUTING #2 Ref: C2U00004 Date: 02/23/95 From: JON-MICHAEL PORTER Time: 09:21am \/To: JOE SMYTH (Read 4 times) Subj: Scout Law/Baden Powell Well the worse scouts we just booted out. They were too much trouble to handle so they were out. What happened is one peed in someones shoes and that someone tried to stab them with a tent stake and the other person drew his survival knife and it could of gotten quite nasty but we stopped it before it escalated. --- Maximus 2.00 * Origin: Desert Heat BBS (1:2613/105) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 237 SCOUTING #2 Ref: C2U00005 Date: 02/23/95 From: JON-MICHAEL PORTER Time: 09:21am \/To: MIKE BINGLEY (Read 4 times) Subj: Re: Scout Law/Baden Powell The worst part is they don't get caught up with the law. I mean none of the parents have any idea and no one has any proof to hold against them so they think doing wrong is ok as long as you aren't caught. But yes I have found that attitude of niceness manytimes but still the bad out weighs the good. --- Maximus 2.00 * Origin: Desert Heat BBS (1:2613/105) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 237 SCOUTING #2 Ref: C2U00006 Date: 02/23/95 From: JON-MICHAEL PORTER Time: 09:21am \/To: TIMOTHY P. As for "giving" an award .. I don't know about that ... I personally feel that we as leaders should not "go after" the knots on our uniforms .. Yes, if you are awarded one, then you should wear it.. but to go after one ( like a merit badge ) really leaves me cold .. This topic is being discussed at length on Prodigy right now .. and the topic is called "big shot leaders" .. The only knots that I wear are for the Silver Beaver and the Order of Merit .. All the others ( and I have a number that I can wear ) are only on one uniform .. I guess we all have just one shirt that has "everything" on it .. It's just that sometimes "big shot leaders" turn me off.. and have a tend to turn off the kids also .. Thanks .. Take care .. Tom ( 32 years Scoutmaster ) --- WILDMAIL!/WC v4.10 * Origin: THE CRYPT!
