Thanks for the reply. I bet it is really cold up there at the North Pole area. And I thought we had it bad. I am out of a small town in Maryland called Preston. Its not a very large pack but not all that small either. We have 58 boys in our Pack. I am one of the Bear Den leaders. We have 7 Boys in our Den, but I make sure that we have a lot of fun and keep them interested. Hope to here from ya real soon! YIS Doug --- GEcho 1.00 * Origin: Sent to you from the Outer Reaches... Michele, what you talk about is *exactly* why I'm getting my son and daughters into scouting and why I'm a scouter. You have to present them with the proper way. Although they act up, having at least being shown a good way of living will make a world of difference when they grow up. One big difference in today's youth from my youth is the instant gratification like that offered through video games. This means we have to make scout meetings quick and instantly rewarding. Please ask your District Executive, or Council Office for the Approved BSA Graphics, they've just released some new ones. There are BSA restrictions on use and should be followed. Your council office has the bottom line. Good luck in your scouting support. Here in the good ole BSA, we tend to move forward at the rate of glaciers, and BBS and computer technology is almost completely foreign to the local and national structure. Keep at it, and someday the local council will ask you to come in to teach their professional staff how to use these computer thingies. --Phil --- WM v3.11/92-0180 * Origin: Quo Vadis Scouting? I don't understand our council. They are very rigid about everything. I think that in part that is good. I read on bbs's from around, how policy and procedures are being lost, to the detriment of the program. But at times, I shake my head and just figure out a way to get it done, (outside of council) Thanks for the note. Are you going to camp this summer. Troop 1 will be at Garland the week of June 11. Hope to run into you somewhere along the scouting trail. Merl ... Last year, even Lake Superior was frozen over by Feb.8th!]. However, it would be nice for us to practice for CJ97. Maybe we'll get a chance to meet you in person! BTW, one of the things that makes our 1st Sherkston Group strong is an ongoing CJ fund which takes 25% of ALL fund-raisers. Parents of all Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Venturers [no Rovers yet] are told about this, and that one day, their youth will be able to go, too. The CJ Fund raises 25-50% of the funds needed by the specific parents whose Scouts/Venturers will go to CJ, nd they must raise the rest in the CJ year. It really seems to give the Group a unity of on-going purpose which also encourages folks to keep their youth in the organisation. We also have a Recruiting Sub-committee, using the Grizzly Creek video, composed of 1 leader fr each Section + the Group Chair/designate, who meet each Spring, assess the likely youth membership next Fall, ASK whether Leaders will be returning, and set forth to recruit: minimum 3 per Section so that many hands make light work [BPP ratios are considered a minimum]. These 2 concepts seem to force us to plan longer than than 1 year that most of us are able to think about. --- GEcho 1.11+ * Origin: Another World Bbs (905-382-0021) (1:247/300) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 237 SCOUTING #2 Ref: C2J00012 Date: 02/13/95 From: LORNE WHITE Time: 09:41am \/To: RANDY CREIGHTON (Read 4 times) Subj: Whittl'n'Chip Thanks for great idea about the soap: maybe we can pass out the sopa chips to the boys for washing up after particularly smoky camps! --- GEcho 1.11+ * Origin: Another World Bbs (905-382-0021) (1:247/300)
