Hi Dale, DC> Hi Adrien, No I didn't got my clock fixed yet. Yes that move shook me DC> up a little bit. I don't now what you mean by tournament DC> organization. By the way I had 2 1/2 not 1/2. Do you go to DC> chess tournaments around whitecourt? If you do DC> Peace River Area have a Grand Prix through the Winter. They DC> have a 4 rounds, rated: active (30 min/game) or regular DC> (Time controls: 45/2 then 30/1). You can read about it in DC> the Alberta Chess Report. Yeah, i've noticed that making blunders shakes me up too and even if they weren't fatal, the losing attitude that I take on probably is! By tournament organization I mean how the organizers ran things: advertising, preparation, round pairings and crosstables, etc... To name a few of the problems I had with their work: they did not advertise well - had they advertized better, I'm know that we would have had quite a few people coming to the tournament from the northern states. With better advertizing, there should have been about 180 people playing, not 140. The round organization was bad mostly due to the fact that the organizers were using a new program - a big tournament is not the place to be trying out new software! To give an example of one of the stranger problems: someone I know was paired twice in the same round! I should not complain too much though, as I'm not sure that I could have done a better job. There doesn't seem to be any chess tournaments in the nearby whitecourt area. I get out to all of the Edmonton weekend tournaments though. I'm not sure if going to Peace River tournaments is a viable option for me as when I go to Edmonton to play in chess tournaments, my family makes its shopping trips and visits to relatives for the same times, so I get a free ride and as we stay with relatives while in Edmonton, free lodging too. I don't think that I could afford the cost of transportation and lodging to go to Peace River tournaments. I have recently found out that the BBS here is going down permanently at the end of August, so I probably shouldn't start a new set of games with you :( Maybe we can continue our conversation until I get cut off though. Regards, Adrien. ...
