And then there are those of us who compose Jazz, Art Music (Always hated the term Classical-- felt like it gave Romantic, Baroque, And all of the other styles short shrift...), Rock, Blues, and whatever idiom seems to work for he particular song. I'm currently working on a suite for full concert band, as well as two jazz arrangements for High School Stage Band, (Miles Davis's "Seven Steps to Heaven" and an original piece for Bone section and rhythm called "The Real Bananna Joe") and composing for my rock project. I have two plus albums of flute jazz waiting for the right flautist, and perform in two different projects. (Oh yeah, as well as working a full time job and a full time marriage, plus lots of other things....) And the piece for concert band, "Fearless," is rather impressive..... --- WWIVGate 1.12c * Origin: Reynard's Keep*(972)387-8330*North Central Texas*(1:124/5015) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 235 MUSIC COMP 101 Ref: DGF00001Date: 12/09/96 From: GREG KEFALAS Time: 10:32pm \/To: SCOTT POLLACK (Read 1 times) Subj: Re: composing SP> A piano sonata? Then add a soundtrack recorded to DAT, and shoot that all to video, and VOILA!... instant christmas presents! I just love creating things. I would describe myself as a barely functional guitar player and a mediocre singer. However, I think I write good songs. I haven't been able to get an honest opinion from anyone else, though. We have a local songwriter's group around here, but they are primarily interested in performing their own works, as singer/songwriters. They have open mike nights and song circles, but I don't perform well enough to be able to impress anyone. Quite honestly, I think my performance _detracts_ so much that the merits of the song itself fail to make themselves known. I am not looking to make a career out of performing, obviously. But, I would like to see if others might think my stuff is good, or even would be interested in performing it themselves. Does anyone have any suggestions? Or are there enough good songs out there written by people can perform them well that, unless I can perform, I cannot contribute? Pax vobiscum. John Mitchell Post FUN!!
