But the local tv channel can only be SW> received via cable, which is not available here in the SW> outskirts. For me, it's hard to envision any part of Germany being an outskirt, what with it being so small compared to Canada! SW> But Bb5 is no direct threat. Okay, you attack the knight, SW> but taking it would be of no immediate use. Ahh, but it is of immediate use! : 1. e4 e4 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Bb5 a6 4. Bxc6 dxc6 5. d4! forcing either a strong white center or a liquidation of the center. If you then get to an endgame with few or no pieces, white has a won game as black's queenside majority can be held up by white's 3 pawns whereas white has a winning K-side majority. To see this, just take the pieces of after 5. d4, white has a won game. (even without the kings!) A friend of mine who is very booked up on 1. e4 recommended this forcing line for me if black plays into the Ruy Lopez as if I last through the middlegame, I have a won game with at least a pretty much guaranteed draw! SW> Well, probably it's a matter of definition... Yes, I guess I am being very picky :) SW> Could you please explain exactly what speed chess is? That SW> which we call "Blitzschach"? 5 minutes per game, invalid SW> move causes loss of the game? Or "Rapidschach", normal SW> chess with 20/30 minutes per game? It's like your "Blitzschach". Invalid moves are taken back if players notice but if they don't, too bad, the move stands. If you miss a check though, your opponent can take your king and claim a win. Speed chess (or blitz) can also be at even faster time controls, but at that point it really becomes more of who has the faster hands... There are LOTS of very particular rules that go with our speed chess, but I don't know them (the ones I do know, i know because I lost to them :( ) We have an equivalent to your "Rapidschach" which we call active chess. SW> I'll be on a smaller tourney from saturday till tuesday, the SW> "Friedensfest- Open" in Augsburg. There will probably be about 70 or 80 SW> players, the best some FMs with 2400 Elo.
