And maybe the #2. The Expos's rotation have AV> one sure starter and several hopes. Here are the canditates for a spot: AV> AV> 1)Pedro Martinez (The best starter of the Expos) AV> 2)Jim Bullinger AV> 3)Carlos Perez (If someone find him) AV> 4)Rheal Cormier (It's not a big starter who can give a AV> lot of innings start after start) AV> 5)Omar Daal (Better in a long relief spot) AV> 6)Matt Wagner (What he can give???) AV> 7)Jose Paniagua (Young arm. Is he ready? I don't ink) I think Paniagua is going to be staying in Ottawa next year, I'm surprised that you have Bullinger as the #2 man. AV> I don't think Smith and Martinez can help the Expos. I hadn't heard about Martinez, is this a done deal or just another rumour? Dennis would be more of a spot starter thn a full time one. AV> In my mind, the Expos have to sacrifice Henry Rodriguez to find another AV> starter. Rodriguez had his best year in 1996 and he can't repeat. AV> I hope Vladimir Guerrero will take the Rodriguez's spot. If they can hust get Henry to stop chasing the high-outside pitches, he'd do better than last year, if not, he's an easy out. That's not really true. Players of the past played the game because for many of them, it was the only way that they could make a living without having to resort to staying on the farm or working in the mines. It has always been conducted as a business and the only way that "loyalty" was instilled in the player was the fact that he was at the mercy of the owner and couldn't jump to another team UNLESS a new league started. When that happened, players either jumped as fast as they could or the owners upped their salaries to keep them "loyal" to the team. When the league folded, salaries were rolled back to reflect the lack of competition for the players' talents. --- TrekEd 1.00 * Origin: Striking a blow to purists (1:170/1701) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 234 BASEBALL Ref: E1^00000 Date: 01/29/97 From: ALLAN JENOFF Time: 08:40am \/To: JENNIFER MARLOWE (Read 2 times) Subj: NEW SEASON JM> The thing is why don't they make a limit on how much a JM> professional player can make. Sure it's nice to have money. But it's their job. Once you become a pro, your job is to play so you can support yourself. Nobody really goes into pro sports for the wrong reason. They go in because it's time for them to make money. It's sometimes the only reason they become pro. They've surely worked hard enough and beat the competition. The moment a child gets serious about baseball, he's thinking of going pro and making money so he can have the money and the fame. It's not a bad deal, considering how much work they need to do before going pro. There is absolutely nothing wrong with wanting the money that's involved. Money's the reason professional sports exist and it's the way it should be. Just as a salesman goes to office everyday, players go to the stadium to make money. But good ones make more money than average ones do. It's the owners that are getting these wrong ideas about money into players' heads. They'll do anything to make money. --- * QMPro 1.53 * I've learned from my mistakes and I'm sure I could repeat --- WILDMAIL!/WC v4.12 * Origin: Fresh Start BBS * Edison NJ * (908) 248-1678 * (1:107/310.0) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 234 BASEBALL Ref: E1^00003 Date: 01/30/97 From: EDDY MORTEN Time: 07:49pm \/To: JEFFREY BELL (Read 2 times) Subj: Arizona Diamondbacks Hello Jeffrey, JB> Have to agree...but it's the Arizone Diamonbacks, JB> not the Dimonds...tehy are fairly dumb nicknames, but JB> there really aren't that many good ones out there... Nothing in these rules will supercede or replace any valid FidoNet rule or policy. ----------- What's "On Topic"? ------------ ML-BASEBALL is an area for the friendly discussions of the great sport of BASEBALL! Everyone is welcome to share facts, figures, opinions, questions and observations about baseball. If it concerns concerns baseball, owners, players, franchises, stadiums, hot-dogs, tickets, or the price of ballpark beer, you're in the right place! :) ----------- What's *OFF TOPIC**? ------------ **FANTASY LEAGUES**, SPORTS TRADING CARDS, Office Pools, Simulation Games, Oddsmaking, Gambling of any kind, Ads for anything other than baseball related files or utilities (to include BBSs); Selling or Exchanging paraphanalia, and anything else that becomes annoying... ---------- How am I supposed to behave here? ---------- 1) First and foremost, let your conscience be your guide. There are three basic rules to abide by as long as you stay within the constraints of the topic at hand: (1) Thou shalt not be annoying. (2) Thou shalt not be easily annoyed. (3) Thou shalt not let filth spilleth out of thy mouth. 2) If your mother wouldn't let you say it, we won't either. Occasional four-letter slips are fairly human, but when "slips" become your norm, the situation will be dealt with. General filth, is not accepable. *3) Remember that your opinions are just that... *YOUR OPINIONS* We all have opinions. Yours isn't any more important than anyone elses. If you disagree with another person here, argue your point, dispute theirs but *_DON'T_* turn it into a personnal war. You'll lose, even if you win. 4) "Emoticons": When speaking (or typing) sarcastically or "tongue in cheek" (:-^) it may be hard for others to discern if you don't slap one of the many versions of smilies ":-)" or "grinz" ";-}" or "" on the end. We can't read your mind, nor would we want to on most occasions. :-) Note: If you see an "Emoticon" on someone else's post, then take it as sarcastic, and don't get all torqued about it. If you do, you'll considered "annoying", and probably catch a foul ball in the noggin' for it. 5) Handles and Aliases (Aliaii ?) are generally frowned upon. It doesn't really matter what your name is, but we like to know that we are conversating with someone intelligent... (???) Aliases are acceptable *_ONLY_* if you sign your real name at the end of the message. 6) Keep the language suitable for general conversation. If your mother wouldn't let you say it, then it shouldn't be said here. We often have youngsters and nice ladies participating in our discussions. There is no open urinal hanging on the wall, nor are there jock straps hanging from every ceiling fixture... In other words, this ain't no locker room. :-) 7) "Extra-curricular Activities" IE: "Boarder Wars" are off-topic. We will not tolerate malicious name calling, Anti-Canadian, Anti-American, Anti-Any-Nationality bantering, nor racial or ethnic slurs. This is grounds for *immediate* vacation from the echo. 8) Minor League discussions are permitted in cases where they directly relate to a particular Major League team or organization. Occasional "Pawtucket beat Apple Valley" reports are fine, but lets not get into the "in-depth" minor league discussions. 9) Multiple line signatures are unnecessary. Please refrain from using the extensive signature lines. Fancy characters (high-ascii) is acceptable, but put it all on one line. ----------- What happens if I don't play well with others? ----------- 1) Any one of the following on the first offense: a) Four (4) Echo-canings, and a $50 EchoBuck contribution to the Roberto Alomar Institute for the Defensively Impared. b) A personal reading of 16 pages worth of Grinnell's statistical analysis on the adverse effect of domed stadiums on rotator cuff injuries. c) A gentle reminder to follow the echo rules. 2) In all seriousness... things that are deemed to be "out of hand" will warrant a friendly reminder in the echo, pointing the offender(s) in the "right" direction. Second, or more serious infractions will result in "personal" netmail to you and your SysOp. This could range anywhere from a harmless personal nasty-gram to a permanent leave-of-absense from the echo. 3) The ever popular, "Leave the moderating to the Moderators." Very rarely (I hope) will you have to see anything from the Moderator in an "official" capacity, but if something comes through, which is unquestionably out of order, let us handle it and you folks just continue with the baseball stuff.
