Hats off to all three MLB networks recognizing that two other networks are showing games, and not being afraid to advertise that fact, and even throwing compliments their way ("...our friends at..."). And hats off to Fox for their "Fox Box." The addition of the little red lights showing what bases are occupied is fantastic. I wish the other networks would follow suit. Does anyone miss The Baseball Network? :^) ... PITCHERS.BAT found! Well, i will just take the time, to notice how Montreal is weird...for the last game of the year, where they are eliminated they have an attendance of 30 000 something...but when they were in the wildcard race, were 1st in the standings, were best 2nd place...they manages to have between 13 and 19 thoushand people...So is the futur of the expos in montreal? Cause to me montreal have, is and always will be a hockey city. --- Maximus 3.01 * Origin: BitByters BBS, Rockland ON, Can. Here is my awards. -> MVP AL Ken Griffey Jr. NL Ellis Burks (ouch) -> Cy Young AL Andy Pettite NL Kevin Brown -> R.O.Y. Derek Jeter NL fill in the blank -> Manger Kevin Kennedy NL Tony Larussa -> Comeback Reggie Jefferson NL Ellis Burks The AL MVP is a real toss-up this year. Jr, ARod, Gonzalez, Vaughn & Thomas are all good picks. Jeter is a no-brainer for ROY but for comeback I'd pick Guzman, the AL ERA leader. Mostly though I want to disagree with the Pettitte selection. It should be Hentgen IMO. Look at their figures: IP ER H BB ERA H/9 IP BB/9 IP Hentgen 265.2 95 238 94 3.22 8.1 3.2 Pettitte 221.0 95 229 72 3.87 9.3 2.9 Variance 44.2 0 9 22 For Pettitte to put up Hentgen's numbers, he'd have to pitch 5 complete game 2 hit shutouts. Against this, Pettitte has just one more win and wins are much more team-dependant than the above stats. Or look at it another way. When assessing hitters, a reliable shorthand is to compare their SLG and OBP. Here's what Hentgen and Pettitte allowed: Hentgen BA .241 SLG .355 OBP .308 Pettitte BA .271 SLG .404 OBP .330 So Hentgen was a fair bit better than Pettitte in preventing hitters from getting hits, hitting with power, getting on base and scoring runs. In addition, Hentgen beats Pettitte in some of the more gaudy stats like complete games (10-3) and shutouts (3-0). So why do you (or any others out there) think that Pettitte deserves the Cy? --- PCBoard (R) v15.3/25 * Origin: Westonia Computer Systems 1:250/636 (416)241-1981 (1:3615/51) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 234 BASEBALL Ref: DE400006 Date: 10/03/96 From: STACY ENGLISH Time: 08:07pm \/To: RIC JOHNSON (Read 2 times) Subj: WORLD SERIES The way their last 2 games have gone, they might not even beat Baltimore!
