It's obvious from the wording that the later "talking" with Tavarez had nothing to do with the suspension (unless he worded it that poorly, which I doubt.) I was surprised that the Brewers pitcher was not thrown out of the game when he first threw at Belle. I certainly am not surprised that Methany was suspended, although I think the five games was a bit much (for, I assume, a first offense) when three seems to be the precident. Tavarez got off easy, though, with only five games. Two weeks to a month seems more in line with other suspensions involving contact with an umpire. Speaking of which, the guy who seems to have gotten off easiest was Joe Brinkman. --- The-Box Edit 1.10- PC * Origin: Dunlop Radial Point. Durham, NC. However, I wasn't aware that running over a fielder who is PT> standing in the base path was against the rules of baseball. There is no rule specifically outlawing elbowing a second baseman in the face unnecessarily. Neither is there a rule outlawing laying a right cross to the jaw of the first baseman after receiving a base on balls. Albert Belle is no sportsman. He believes that he should get to make up the rules as he goes along. Albert Belle crowds the plate, as he is entitled to do, and pitchers try to jam him, as they are entitled to do. Belle, however, believes that pitchers should not be allowed to pitch him inside, merely because he is Albert Belle, the ass. (Note that the Astros Jeff Bagwell also crowds the plate, and he has finished each of the last three seasons early, with broken bones where he was hit by pitches. At least one of those pitches that ended his season was a strike.) Albert Belle is an ass. He should be punished, not coddled. If a pitcher is not ejected for hitting Belle, then it only evens the score for Belle trying to intimidate pitchers by crowding the plate and threatening to charge the mound if they pitch inside. My only question about Belle is this: Is Belle merely the by-product of our culture which overpays and overindulges sports stars, or is there just something wrong with the guy? I mean, would this guy be just as big an ass if he worked at the local garage? Russ ---- ... Recently the Atlanta Braves have began to dig themselves a "nice" hole. For God-Sakes man they cant even keep-up with the Mets!!! I'm talking about the defending World Champ's here. All they have been able to produce lately is Home-Runs. And not even alot of thoes. Last night the Braves started a series with the Mets in NY. With 16 (yes 16) hits and Jeff Blauser going 5-5, they only scored 3 off a Fred McGriff 3-run HR in the 6th. How does this happen? I say they are a little too cockey. Steve Avery swearing at Jose Vizcaino after he jumped in the air because of a HR hit by teammate Todd Hundley (who hit one right handed in the 2nd and another left handed in the 7th) in the 2nd inning. Avery hit Vizcanio in the right knee-cap on his next at bat. The insuming brawl came when Mets reliver Mliki got a warning for giving Avery a little "chin-music".
