As I mentioned in another post earlier this evening usually we pass through the meatle detector and if the machine is not tripped we go on our way, but if the meatle detector is tripped we're asked to stand swhile we're handsearched either by a meatle detecting wand or by being patted down an we've never given the air port securrity personnell a hard time about this as we've witnessed others, both blind and sighted alike getting searched in this way. I just think that havingg us stand with our arms ext4ended and our legs spread out was just a little too much overkill on the part of the air line securrity service. Let's just say that Harvey's recent experience has us on allert for similar occurrances around the country. I don't know if United is the only Air Line that contracts with archenbrite for securrity services at it's terminals. mary took an America West flight to Phoenix and will be returning on the same air line on Sunday, and you bet I'll be there to meat her. As Walt pointed out this is one insident that is a gray line whare the treatment we received may, or may not have occurred as a result of our being blind. All we can do is just monitor the situation to see whether we're treated just like any other passinger passing through SAI, or if for stoopid reason the air lines or the support providers once again engage in acts that result in discriminatorry treatment of our blind citizens. We'll keep you posted. Take care and have a good evening. Many of them contain their share of horror stories of treatment by the blind by the air lines. I believe that two of the worst ones I've heard about were those that discussed Mike Hingson's being hauled off of a plane and being physically abused by Las angelis Police for refusing to being forced to sit in a bulkhead seat because he used a guide dog, and the one about Steeve and Nadean Jacobson's being arrested and taken to jail and strip searched becaused they refused to move from an over-wing exit row seat; a seat that was assigned to them by none other than United Air lines. Harvey and anyone who believes that they have been mistreated by an air line for any reason has a well-founded reason to feel angry about the way they were treated given the record of treatment of blind passingers by some of our Nation's air lines. Mary and I hope you get what you want from United air Lines. In doing so you will hopefully keep the rest of us from having to endure similar treatment. Take care and have a great weekend. There are some changes I want to make to the translating format, mainly to do with paragraphs. If I type a file in which I leave a space between paragraphs, and then tab the next paragraph, my braille copy will also include the space between the two paragraphs. How should I change this, or other translation formats? The help available is not very user-friendly in this program. There are a lot of helpful features, but I don't know how to use them. I would really appreciate the help. I personally find airport staff that barely speak English a pain but think your search was not related to a language issue, just incompetent security staff. ... ARRRRRGGGHHH!!!! ... I generally find self-identifying myself to an airline with things like travelling with guide dog etc or assistance with getting from counter to gate pays off. One time U.S. Air had 3 people with guide dogs, me one of them, booked into one row of a 767. Someone from the airline was discussing the matter with the two other travellers, a husband/wife who both have guide dogs and mentioned the name of the other passenger to them but said they didn't know if the guy had a dog or not. Well I did and funny part was I was like sitting about 5 feet away from them. Decided to keep quiet as my dog and I seemed invisible to the airline staff and let them figure out what to do when I boarded. Wound up across the aisle in someone's wife's seat and guy wasn't impressed, but I said this is where the airline person told me to sit, the complaints department is the Captain up front. If you have a white knuckle flier next to you, you can really make their day by recounting stories of problems with take-offs, like not getting into the air by end of the runway and getting stuck in the mud, landing in the harbor while trying to take off and how landings are even more dangerous as the bird is low on fuel and has tons of fumes in the fuel tanks which are many more times more explosive than jet fuel in the liquid form. At least if you fly Geronamo Airways, you expect to jump out of the airplane as it is the choice of professional sky divers. But scares the bejeevers out of Seeing Eye dogs. ... Tag line thievery ...
