A long time ago I did a written 10th step every day for 5 years. It was very helpful in spottting patterns and causes of why I did the things I did. I also wrote a brief summary of what I did that day and what I ate In Aug I will have 25 years in Alanon. I came in 8/73. Both my current sponsors have 11 kids and both rarely attend meetings now. I never have graduated but if I live long enough there will probably come the day I can no longer drive to meetings and after thaqt the day I can[t get there at all (too ill) Hope I have 25 years before that happens. --- Maximus 3.01 * Origin: Tarkin's Rift (1:106/6) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 231 RECOVERY Ref: FA100005 Date: 05/24/98 From: CHERLYN YOUENS Time: 01:48am \/To: MARIE WEIDEMANN (Read 0 times) Subj: Re: movies I loved Dragon heart too. Representatives from NCSAB, NFB, RSVA, RSA and others have been meeting for some time. The general plan is to offer tours of area facilities in the morning, with an afternoon program titled "Randolph-Sheppard: The Past, Present and Future". The day would be capped off with a reception key-noted by the President of the United States, or the Vice-President. The committee is targeting State Directors, BEP Directors, Committee of Blind Vendors Chairmen, other blind vendors, Cabinet Officers, Members of Congress and other dignitaries. The intent of this message is to alert you to this planning, ask that you keep that date open for attendance if possible, and notify your Committee Chairman. The message is also being sent to consumer bulletin boards and on-line services. This celebration is contingent on the President or Vice-President attending the evening reception. If neither can attend, the celebration will not occur. In that case, some other written announcement or Executive Order supporting Randolph-Sheppard is expected to be released. If the planning committee does not have a firm commitment from the White House by May 20th, the celebration will not occur. We will let you know soon after May 20th if the celebration is on. The celebration was contingent upon securing the attendance of the President or Vice-President. Unfortunately, neither will be able to attend. Therefore, the celebration in Washington, D.C. has been canceled. RSA will be distributing an Information Memo along with other documents (proclamation, and hopefully an Executive Order) regarding this anniversary. These will be useful to SLA's, consumer groups and others in marking the anniversary locally. While we are disappointed, the process has been positive and fruitful. NCSAB, NFB Merchants, RSVA (all of whom pledged money for the event) and RSA continue to develop relationships to advance the Randolph-Sheppard Program. In addition, it is hoped that an Executive Order will be signed to further support our collective efforts. Thank You to all participants. Richard C. I couldn't agree with you more reegarding the general tone of the discussion. I have been using Seeing Eye dogs for the past seventeen yearts and have found such an approach to be extremely beneficial. I can add very little to what you have already said, except that if the NFB is as intolerant of guide dog use as the Monitor might well lead non-members to believe, I would feel very uncomfortable as a member of such an association. Although the Federation has several Canadian members, eventhese people know that such a hostile attitude doesn't reflect the values of the Canadian blind consumer movement. The NFB has attempted, on several occasions, to expand its activities into our country. In fact, my mother recalls being approached during the 1950's by someone who wanted to starta chapter in my home province. It didn't work then and it can'tpossibly work now if flexibility and tolerance are not part of the Federations basic values. Co-operation is always possible, but we would nt feel comfortable about allowing Americans to drive our own consumer movement. The NFB has to show us that it's prepared to deal with its own memberts on ezuitable terms. If that does not happen, I think the credibility of the entire organization will suffer, even though its basic philosophy is sound. --- Maximus 3.01 * Origin: Vision Information Systems (1:163/266) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 233 NFB BLIND NEWS Ref: D5P00000Date: 05/18/96 From: HARVEY HEAGY Time: 10:35pm \/To: ALL (Read 1 times) Subj: someone needs help Originally appearing on the N.F.B. research and development mailing list. I am conducting an experiment making a number of long distance phone calls for a bout 2 minutes each. If you would like to participate in this experiment and would like me to call you, please let me know. Give me a phone number I can reach you at and a good time to reach you (preferably daytime) and I will schedule you to participate in the next couple of days. The experiment is kind of fun and you get to hear what digital cellular phones sound like. Thanks for all your help. I am really in a pinch!
