But you > have to pay for those stupid mistakes. I pay for my mistakes all the time, > know how much it sucks and don't say that I don't because I do. I think that some people have quit drinking by willpower and possibly a support netowrk in many cases. But imho, I do not think that willpower is a base for a quit drinking _program_. The decision to quit drinking is not a stupid mistake, but rather, 'a very bad decision, sometimes extremely difficult to amend. telnet://thorny.ml.org --- 80665.99973647: Microprocessor of The Pentium Beast. --- Virtual Advanced Ver 2 for DOS * Origin: Thorny's BBS, Lawrence, Kansas USA, (913) 832-2011 (1:299/121) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 231 RECOVERY Ref: EFL00009 Date: 11/13/97 From: AKHRAN Time: 10:39pm \/To: PAUL KARPINSKY (Read 0 times) Subj: Re: drugs Re: Re: drugs > I'm not going to get mad at your message claiming that I know nothing about > alcohalism. I don't want t > hear anything else about it. If you didn't want to hear anything else about it, you shouldn't have posted this. You can't just say "I get the last word, and that is all." Doesn't work that way here. Ever consider that you don't attend the same parties others do? ever consider that there are other parties with other clientele where people drink til they puke, pass out, black out, make _total fools_ of themselves, in order to "get away" for a while? Ever considered that the real alcoholic kids can't get into the bar, because they can't afford to drink there and couldn't get in because they were only twelve years old? What about the people in the bar getting hammered for reasons besides the ones that you think they are there for? Everybody isn't you (thank god, or lucifer, or peppermint patty), and just because you don't drink because of your problems doesn't mean that others don't. Pardon me if this is too offensive, or too true, but you show off your ignorance like a shinny toy sherrif's badge, showcasing it for all to see. Anyways, I agree that many kids start drinking from lack of support from their parents. A friend of mine gets drunk every time he's around beer, which isn't too often but at least once a week. He's 18 and his parents baby him like hell. I held a party and he got drunk again. When he got home his parents found him drunk again and they banned him from coming to my place because some people brought alcohal. I'm not really mad at his parents but I'm pissed off at him for getting drunk and then going home. I also hate it how smokers always say " if your not going to inhale then why do you smoke? " First of all, what's the point of smoking in the first place? Second of all, it's better not to inhale since it's better for your lungs. I think that AA meetings are really good but I think it's better if you have someone that you can look up to and if that person supports you. Sorry for rambling on about nothing. I do that very much. --- Maximus 3.01 * Origin: BitByters BBS, Rockland ON, Can. It makes some folks drowsy though. It's not an anti-inflammatory. By the way, if anyone into herbal medicine EVER offers you willow bark or white willow bark in ANY form, this is a salicyate and closely related chemically to aspirin. Some folks go so rar as to say aspirin is a synthetic of it. I don't think that's quite right, but it's close to correct, chemically speaking. So please keep this on file and don't ever take it. If you're that allergic to aspirin, willow bark in any form could be fatal. . (I know how well meaning would-be herbalists might not realize this - I didn't until my husbamd, who did alot of chemistry courses in college, caught me using it with aspirin and asked me if I was TRYING to destroy my stomach intentionally or did I not know I'd just taken, basically, a double dose by doing that.) --- TriToss (tm) Professional 11.0 - #66 * Origin: Keystone BBS * Shrewsbury, MA * 508-753-3767 (1:322/743.0)
