I'm relatively new to this Conference so, I AL>don't know what the rules really are. I'd like to think that this is an AL>"open" forum that covers all the aspects of addictions...from AA to the AL>need for proper nutrition to proper ways to deal with (and handle) AL>emotions to whatever happens to have worked for someone. If these AL>differnent perspectives can be offered to recovering addicts then, AL>perhaps, each individual will be free to find what works for him or AL>her. AL>--- TriToss (tm) Professional 10.0 - #53 AL> * Origin: FIDOnet-=Insomnia BBS=- Sarnia, On (519)336-9359 (1:246/7.0) Well from what I have always understood it's not just AA and Narcotics Anonymous on here, but anyone from any of the many and various 12 step fellowships. I've seen folks from Al-Anon and Coda on here. I'm in AA and (allegedly - haven't been seen there in a year) in Al-Anon and Survivors of Incest Anonymous too, as well as having been seen at a few Dual Recovery Anonymous meetings - for people with a mood or thought disorder as well as a chemical dependency problem. That is what I've always loved about this particular echo - that we could discuss it all without having to worry too much about the old "on-topic" restrictions we might run into elsewhere. I hope this isn't going to change myself. --- KBBS vZ.20p (#ARI-00219) * Origin: Dreamer's Lot BBS * Shrewsbury * Ma * 508-798-4188(1:322/758) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 231 RECOVERY Ref: D3Y00004 Date: 03/27/96 From: JUDITH LABONTE Time: 05:51pm \/To: RICHARD WARD (Read 0 times) Subj: chat RW>Thanks for the assist, Kitty. What's this rumor I've heard that you are the longest running moderator on fido? Wow! And still sane? (I speak from brief experience on another network) You have my admiration there. There seems to be some discussion going on here about the east coast coming out of winter hibernation - all I can say is "From your mouth, to God's ears" Now to get to the point - really I can - I've seen some discussion here that would seem to indicate that this echo may be going to AA only. I thought this echo was for all 12 step recovery? I have always liked it because it IS more open in discussion than Sip_AA or Sip_NA, for example. I hope that this is not going to change and that someone misunderstood what you said. Personally, I'd like to hear it from you. What DID you say about this anyway? Oh, by the way, you're doing a good job - and remember, I don't want to take it away from you. (GRIN) It's just not my thing. (I hope you ARE the moderator, right? RA>--- WILDMAIL!/WC v4.11 RA> * Origin: Louisville Hot House (1:2320/180.0) About that bad spell in a long term illness, I want to tell you that I have a couple of on-going physical disabilities and I can relate to you. I sometimes find it effects my recovery a lot because it makes it almost impossible to get to meetings at times. Recovery by electronic means has done a lot to fill in the gaps. I also used to work with folks with HIV and AIDS and some of them were in recovery. One friend in particular found out he had full blown Aids after being clean and sober for almost two years. He died almost five years sober. He had a hard time with it - he wasn't always perfectly serene, esp. as he was less and less able to make meetings. But he set up a sober rooming house that saved my life and probably the life of at least one other AA member during that time, probably a few more. It would never cease to amaze me how many of our fellow AA's criticized his bad attitude without ever having a single clue as to what was going on or that he was ill. I had a hard time with that. I wanted to slug a few folks, believe me. I didn't, but I wanted to. When I have a hard time staying sober due to the physical challenges, I think about this guy and let him be a power of example to me. It gets me through a lot of bad days. I think we've talked a little on here before, I'm not sure. Either way, I just wanted to let you know that you're not alone and that any day you stay clean, sober or whatever it is for you, you've done something right by cooperating with your Higher Power - whatever that is for you - and letting it happen. Hang in there, the light at the end of the tunnel is not necessarily an oncoming train - just for today. --- KBBS vZ.20p (#ARI-00219) * Origin: Dreamer's Lot BBS * Shrewsbury * Ma * 508-798-4188(1:322/758) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 231 RECOVERY Ref: D3Y00007 Date: 03/27/96 From: RICHARD WARD Time: 05:35am \/To: TIM DILL (Read 0 times) Subj: Taking a trip? You see, I'm a bit of an agnostic so, I've Agnostic eh, shall I say welcome to the club? I had a hard time dealing with the term God in recovery (still do). I asked around for some help to others in the program, and my local paster (hard to explain fer sure). The basic answers were put God in a box and find a higher Power. Don't mix religion and spirituality. God is God no matter what name you call him. Over all, I decided not to name my HP except that it is a Higher Power. I can still rationalize a mole hill into a mountain. That's why I go to meetings and talk to friends in the program. I can't, we can. Means to me, I rationalize, we keep me in reality. Al> I've also been working on Step 4 (personal inventory) but, I've got a Al> ways to go before I'm through! Easy to believe. It's quite hard to do an honest moral inventory when you've yet to turn your will over to a power greater than your own, ie a Higher Power. Trust me I've tried.
