It's nice to have someone you can turn to. I do want you to know I am NOT against hypnosis, I just think that if there is a chance of traumatic memories coming up you are better off doing it with someone who is also a psychotherapeutic professional. But that's my opinion. Personally I have found the 12 steps of recovery in Survivors of Incest Anonymous and Adult Children of Alcoholics to be the "easier, softer way" FOR ME. I hope you find your own path to peace and serenity. --- TriToss (tm) Professional 1.0 - (Unregistered) * Origin: Dreamer's Lot BBS (1:322/758.0) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 231 RECOVERY Ref: CCG00001 Date: 08/10/95 From: MATRIKA Time: 05:32pm \/To: PHIL BARTER (Read 2 times) Subj: Hi from Holly Hi to Holly on Internet - also Hi to you and your significant other. I hope you are doing well as well as staying clean and sober and sane and serene and cool this summer. P S tell Spirit on the conference you moderate about Holly, she's been concerned about her too. I imagine once you get into internet you can get lost in it. By the way, I was asked to speak at the anniversary for our local DRA group (Dual Recovery Anonymous) which my sponsee started last year. I told my husband about it and he said "Daughters of the American Revolution, why are they asking YOU to speak?" (It must be my Native American ancestory that makes him of such little faith) GRIN! I used to cosysop the PAN BBS (original - on WWIV NET and then WWIV LINK back six or so years ago) in Roanoke VA, which is why I said it's pitiful that I don't know. I also was active on a board in Glen Burnie MD - between Baltimore MD and D C - for a few months when I stayed there about 4-5 years ago. So that makes it additionally pitiful. I must repentium for the kingdom of C D Rom is at hand. (GRIN) Anyway, I'm not on WME at all anymore. Maybe Phil B. can help you out. Speaking of going back on topic, vis a vis, your tag-line, I must add that I LOVE the AA meetings and Al-Anon meetings in that area of the country. Did you see the message I wrote to Phil? When my sponsee asked me to speak at the one year anniversary of the DRA (Dual Recovery Anonymous) meeting that she helped to found and I told my husband about it, he asked me why the "Daughters of the American Revolution" had asked me to speak. I don't know. do you? I really liked that. --- TriToss (tm) Professional 1.0 - (Unregistered) * Origin: Dreamer's Lot BBS (1:322/758.0) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 231 RECOVERY Ref: CCG00004 Date: 08/10/95 From: MATRIKA Time: 07:57pm \/To: EMANON (Read 2 times) Subj: Caffeine 'addiction' Re - loving your coffee and your jolt cola, but can't conceive of it being addictive - I have a couple of stories to tell you about this. One is about a friend, Chris, who was raised by a codependent and enabling mother who, after divorcing the Alcoholic Father, went on to date another alcoholic for a long time - until he died. My friend was in ACOA and Al-Anon some, but did not have any "normal addictions" such as drugs, alcoholc, compulsive gambling, overeating, etc. But she did drink copious amounts of coffee - so much so that at one time she was mis-diagnosed as having a bipolar effective disorder. She would frequently come to my house in the same state as a person on a speed run would be, just from espresso - or however you spell it - and really in bad shape wanting to talk to me in a sponsorly way and I would make her up a tea using natural herbs that are relaxants. She'd drink it. Then she'd pass out on my couch and when she'd wake up in a few hours, she'd be fine. People sent me to her because I could handle her. A few months later this young lady went off to college. The next time I saw her she was a different person. Why? She had had to stop drinking all forms of coffee and tea because she had nearly given herself an ulcer at only 23 from it. To me, that is addictive use of a chemical. Also my husband decided to give up coffee while we were engaged and he was so grumpy and really off the walls that I almost called off the engagement. His boss at that time was also ready to lay him off for a month or two. I'm not saying that YOU are addicted here, believe me. If you can enjoy your coffee and jolt cola, go for it. But I have personally seen at least these two cases where people were obviously taking use of caffeine a little too seriously. Although I don't touch the coffee and tea due to allergies - probably to the tannic acid, as regular colas don't bother me (never had jolt) - I got to be a bit of an expert on this in college. I took a mandatory course in health on Drugs and society. I figured I'd Ace it as I was in AA (sort of) myself and I'd also taken three other courses on chemical dependency in the psychology dept. of my community (2 year) school before it. In fact I figured I'd just re-submit the same term papers on AA, Al-Anon, and NA. (I hadn't gotten the part about honesty in all my endeavors just yet) The teacher fooled me and assigned me a paper on caffeine as a drug. I was surprised to find some interesting info on it. --- TriToss (tm) Professional 1.0 - (Unregistered) * Origin: Dreamer's Lot BBS (1:322/758.0) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 231 RECOVERY Ref: CCG00005 Date: 08/10/95 From: ROSLYN REID Time: 11:10am \/To: BRIAN WATERMAN (Read 2 times) Subj: RERUNS BW>someone who posted from Titusville, Fla.
