GAME 2 -- Regimbald-Moon: 1 c4 d5 2 cxd5 Nf6 3 e4 c6 4 ?? AR>BM> Past a certain number of games, it becomes more efficient to do as AR>BM> much of the process as possible with software. AR> I don't have any decent chess database type software. I'm putting up a AR> question on the subject, which is best, etc... What do you think? Some people swear by such programs as ChessEdit (and I might actually get around to using it myself, one of these days!), but I think most people devise a system for keeping track of their games based on what they have n hand. I have a small program which will run through the moves of a game, showing a graphical representation of the position. To this I add a text editor and run both in conjuction with my mailer to generate messages. I use the same text editor to make a printout of my games in progress. The printout is updated manually for a month or so, and then a new printout is made. This is not terribly sophisticated, but if something happens to my printout, I can make another; and if something happens to my computer files, I have the moves on paper. AR>BM> I'm a bit older -- more than twice your age -- and categorized as AR>BM> disabled. I live in Coos Bay, Oregon. AR> What do you mean by "categorized as disabled" ? I should have said "classified" rather than "categorized". Due to gout nd other medical problems, I meet the state's criteria for being disabled. AR>BM>AR> Do you play over the board chess? AR>BM> I'm president of the local chess club, so I get OTB opportunities, AR>BM> although most of my chess these days is played electronically. AR> Which do you prefer? I don't know that I have a "preference", per se, although I hate doing the postcard-snail-mail stuff. Except for that, I pretty much take what I can get. AR>BM> The local club is a USCF affiliate, and we do at least one rated AR>BM> event per year. We also stage a simul in the fall using club AR>BM> members as the "guest player". I'll probably be the one doing it AR>BM> this year, which will make it 3 years in a row. AR> Only 1 rated event per year? The Edmonton chess club is rather small & AR> it only plays serious tournament games 1 day/week and they play about 0 AR> five round tournaments/year. I should have said 1 "open" event per year. Most of our members go to at least 3-4 out-of-town events per year (a couple of members were hitting -2 tournaments per month). AR> Are you the strongest player in your club? No. I'm about 4th or 5th. Of our 10-12 regulars, the top 7-8 players are clustered within a range of 200-250 rating points. Who is "best" often depends on who's "in the zone" and who isn't. AR> How well do you do as the "guest player"? Both years I had 13 boards arranged in a rectangle, of which I ran around the inside. 1n 1994, my W-L-D record was 25-2-4 (including 3-2-3 against local club members) and in 1995 I scored 17-4-1 (8-4-1 against clubbers).
