You have to use a water conditioner. A lot of cities are using chloramines now so it something to look into. I do agree with your stance that too many chemicals are used in our drinking water. DB> !@ hours is not enough time to dispel all the cholorine in the water. No amount of time either sitting or being agitated will get rid of chloramines, which a lot of cities are using now adays. I would highly reccomend checking if your city ads it to your water. If they do use a water conditioner that gets rid of it. See ya ... Their shape allows the water to flow over them without pushing them along with it. Unfortuneatly I can't remember where I read this so I can't refer you to my source. A freind of mine is setting up a temporary salt water tank for a local store. It would hold one or two lobsters and be running for about 2 weeks. He is looking for some suggestions on how to do so cheaply and with a minimum of effort. His two main concerns were: 1) The tempature has to be maintained fairly steadly at 50 F. 2) Keeping the protein build up from blocking the oxygen and carbon dioxide transfer. For cooling the only thing that came to mind was running the output tube of a cannister type filter through a cooler kept full of ice. If you found the right length to have surrounded by ice, it should theoretically keep the temprature pretty stable. For the protein we came up with 2 solutions. Either have a large amount of air being sent into the tank so that the protein gets broken up that way or an aquaclear type filter that would break it at least one spot. He is going to use a 27 gallon tank for this. Any ideas or critisms? Thanx in advance for any information you can provide. See ya ... I have been raising fish in aquariums for 30 years, and have been bbsing for 11 years. I finally decided to put the two togather. Right now I have a 50 gal tank with Angels, tetras, loches, algea eaters, and live plants. I also have a 125 gallon tank with African ciclids with a 50 gallon tank for a filter. I just left this as some backround. In the 50 gallon tank with the plants, I have noticed that my black angels get ick rather easily. The neons, and cardinals are the largest that I have ever seen, and very healthy. The clown loaches are about 5 inches long, and are as healthy as the tetras. All of the fish have been in the tank for over a year. The ph stays around 7.2 (same as my tap water), and I do just enough water changes to keep the nitrates around 25. So now the big question! Why are the black angels prone to get ick after many of the water changes? Thanks for any comments.
